was set up like an apartment with a central area and rooms that branched off from it. She followed their scents to an opening to her left.
Before she reached the door, it blew open and rogues streamed out. One tackled her to the ground. She hit the fucker in the side of the head, knocking him off her. Rolling to her feet, she growled and charged at him as he stood. With a clawed hand, she sliced through his stomach, then again across the throat.
He dropped to the ground with a thud, and she rounded on the next one. The stupid bastard thought he could sneak up on her. Ha! Silly fucker.
She thrust her hand forward and up, hitting him in the nose with the heel of her palm. He screamed out and stumbled backward. Taking advantage of his distraction, she circled him to jump on his back. He reached back and grabbed a handful of her hair, trying to pull her off him. Nice try, asshole. She gripped his head in her hands and jerked, twisting it and snapping his neck.
He fell to the floor, and she jumped to her feet. That was when she saw a clear shot to the room Faelin and Elis were in. Sending out a telepathic message to her packmates, she said, “I’m going after Faelin. Bren, start pulling on the power and let it trickle into our connection.”
“You got it,” Brenna replied.
Luna ran to the door and opened it. Faelin and Elise stood facing each other in the center of the room, surrounded by a magical circle. Elise held the stone in her hand between them and was chanting. Power flowed out around them and into Faelin.
“They’re in a protective bubble.” As soon as Luna sent the thought out to Rhea and the twins, the three of them materialized beside her.
Rhea took Luna’s hand and smiled. “This way is better.”
Luna grinned and tightened her hold on Rhea’s hand. “Ready.”
Brenna pushed the power from the stone out to the rest of them. Luna inhaled as the magic filled her, enhancing her Alpha power. “On the count of three.”
“One,” Brenna said.
Bryce smirked. “Two.”
Luna finished the count down. “Three.”
Together they threw out the power straight to the magic circle. It instantly fell, allowing the moonstone magic to hit both Elise and Faelin. They cried out as the dark power wrapped around them like a tornado, moving faster and faster.
Rhea pulled on Luna’s hand. “We need to get out of this bunker. Now.”
Yeah, the magical tornado was getting bigger. Rushing out of the room, Luna yelled. “Everyone out!”
No one questioned her, they stopped fighting and ran toward the exit. Just as the last person was out of the bunker, it collapsed and the ground shook under them. Another moment later, the ground opened up. Fuck. They had created a sinkhole.
“Move!”
Luna jumped into Rafe’s truck at the same time he did. She didn’t get the seat belt on before he pealed out and raced down the road toward town.
Her heart was going to leap out of her chest and her body still hummed from the moonstone power. She leaned her head back against the seat and closed her eyes.
Rafe covered her hand. “You okay?”
“Yeah. You?”
“Never better.” Rafe kissed her knuckles, and she sighed. She couldn’t wait to get back home and snuggle up to her mate.
“What now?”
Rafe shrugged and slowed the truck down. “I figured it was time for me to return to Ashwood for good. And claim my mate.”
She laughed. “If I don’t claim you first.”
The rest of the drive was filled with a comfortable silence. When they stopped in front of Wilde Industries, Rafe turned and framed her face. “Faelin is gone. The war is over?”
She kissed him. “He’s gone, and there is no one else left that was connected to Felix alive. But I think we will always be battling rogues.”
“You’re right. But the biggest battles are behind us now.”
She kissed him again. “Let’s get this all wrapped up with Kasen and go home.”
“Yes, my Alpha.”
Epilogue
Two years later
Luna propped her bare feet on the coffee table and admired the new set of pink paw prints on the top of her foot. She had waited until Sasha confirmed the sex of the baby before she had Brenna add the pink paw prints. Bren had become a very talented tattoo artist to help pay for her way through art school.
Rafe curled around her and rested his hand on her large belly. “We need a name. I think her middle name should be Luna.”
Crinkling her nose, Luna shook her head. “I was thinking of Naomi Rose.”
A slow smile lifted her lips as she watched a mix of emotions pass over Rafe’s features. Naomi was his mother’s name, and Rose was a middle name passed down to the females in Luna’s family.
He kissed her, hard. “It’s perfect. Mom is smiling down at us right now.”
“I think so too.” Luna glanced at the moonstone in the center of the coffee table. They weren’t sure what to do with it. They tried to destroy it, but there was a magical barrier that protected it.
Rafe noticed where her attention had gone. “Has Shay and Robyn found the ritual to destroy it?”
“No. But Shay mentioned something the other day that Blaine and I are considering. She asked why we couldn’t use it to protect the entire den.” Luna thought it was a good idea but didn’t have a clue on how to incorporate it into the existing wards and security system they had in place.
“If it could be done safely, I think it would be an added layer of security.” Rafe leaned down and pressed a kiss to Luna’s belly. “Have you heard from Colt or Kirk?”
Kirk had moved to Willow Glen to be with his sister. Luna didn’t blame him because Nyla was his only family, besides Ashwood. He was still one of Luna and Blaine’s cats, and because of the alliance with the Wilde Wolf Pack, Kirk was grandfathered into that Pack as well. Luna thought it was mostly because Nyla was Kasen’s mate, even though the two of them hadn’t yet claimed each other.
“I talked to Nyla this morning. She was about to head out to another job.” Luna shook her head. Nyla started working as a mercenary. She got paid to hunt down and kill some evil people.
Rafe chuckled. “Being an assassin fits her.”
“It does.”
The front door opened, drawing their attention. Cameron, Rhea, Shay, both Healers, and several other females entered. Cameron walked around the coffee table and faced them, glaring at Rafe. “Go away. This is a female-only baby shower.”
Laughing, Rafe kissed Luna, lifting it linger. “See you tonight. I love you.”
“Love you, too.” She watched him leave, feeling his love pulse through their mating bond. Never in a thousand years had she dreamed she’d mate again. Yet there she was, happily bonded to her true mate with a baby girl on the way.
Life was great.
