Caught Between Three Billionaire Tycoons - Willa Hart Page 0,13

a few steps away from the car and let myself cry. The rain mingled with my tears and I just stood for a second, trying to let my emotions run themselves out so I could calm down.

Suddenly, I heard a swishing sound, like tires swiftly cutting through mud. I turned my head down the road and saw a pair of headlights. I wanted to leap onto the road and wave my arms, but I was suddenly frightened all over again. I didn’t know anyone out here. I’d have no way of knowing if this was an axe murderer or not.

I stood, frozen. Watching the car approach. It slowed down and bumped to a stop just behind my car. I stepped over quickly and stood by the door. It would be the best position to defend the kids if I had to.

Who was I kidding? I was no match for anyone who intended violence. This thought made me tremble in a way that had nothing to do with icy winds.

It was a big four-wheel drive, a car meant for exactly these conditions. It had big, thick tires and a snorkel on it for moving through flooded roads. It could be my salvation.

It could also be a crazed mountain-dwelling killer.

The window came down smoothly and a face peeked out. I noticed immediately that it was a man, but he didn’t look like a crazy psycho wild main.

He was clean shaven with pale skin and bright green eyes. I could see them from this distance, through the rain. He was dressed neatly, from what I could see, and an expensive watch glittered on one worst.

He did not get out of the car, and this comforted me greatly.

“Hey there.” His voice was gentle and even. “You look like you need some help. Are you okay?”

“Yes, I am. I mean, no. I uh…”

I couldn’t believe my own reaction. I put it down to the stress of the crash. My brain and my mouth were not connecting. That was all.

It had nothing to do with that bow of a mouth, blushed deep red. Nothing to do with that clean, handsome profile. No. It had nothing to do with any of that. I was just rattled.

He grinned at me and I reflexively grinned back. I took a little step closer.

“So, which is it?” He said with good humor. “You need help, or you don’t.”

I looked over the car with dismay.

“Well, obviously I need help. I’m stuck.”

“What are you doing with that stick?” He looked me over curiously.

“I was trying to dig the wheels out.”

“Oh, honey. Even if you had all day and the best equipment, that would never get you out. You need a tow. Do you have someone coming for you?”

“No. There’s no service. I couldn’t call anyone.”

“Yeah, that’s the mountains.” He said evenly, looking up toward their majestic, towering bulk. “Some places have good reception, others don’t. It fades in and out up here, especially in weather like this.”

“Oh. I didn’t know.”

The moment becomes full of anticipation suddenly. When he looked at me, I could sense a deep probing, as if he wants to know everything about me and easily could, if he just looked long enough.

“I’ve got a wire winch on the front here.” He taps his steering wheel. “I can tow you out. If your car is still okay, you can get on by yourself or I can tow you to a garage or something.”

I can’t quite answer, but I manage to nod. He glances toward the car and his smile lightens, looking at the car with warmth.

“Your kids are beautiful, lady.”

I glance to the car and see both kids have swiveled around and are looking out the rear-view window. They keep wiping the steam off the window so they can keep peaking.

“Oh,” I laughed easily. “They aren’t mine. I’m just very lucky to be their nanny. They are gorgeous. I hope to have a few of my own like this one day.”

After the words left my lips, I feel utterly stupid. Why was I revealing my most private wants and needs to a total stranger?

A wicked hot total stranger. Someone I’d love to get to know. A guy that might think I was totally weird for a girl to want to get tied down.

I could tell by his face he didn’t find it weird. There was a softness to him, a dose of gentle appreciation. I couldn’t help but smile back and his eyes glinted in a wild, feral way that reminded
