Call Me Crazy (Bellamy Creek #3) - Melanie Harlow Page 0,54

me was a vacation in itself.”

“Oh.” Shelly clucked her tongue and put a hand over her heart, looking at me like she was about to cry. “Is that really what you said?”

“It’s close,” I said, faking a smile as I stepped on Enzo’s foot beneath the table.

Shelly sighed. “That’s so romantic.”

“Isn’t it?” Enzo kissed the back of my hand. “What do you say, dumpling, should we finish up and get going?”

I glared at him. “Sure.”

“Would you like to put this on your room charge?” Shelly asked.

“Yes, please.” Enzo gave her one final smile. “Thanks.”

When we were alone again, I took my hand from Enzo. “What was that all about?”

He shrugged. “Just keeping up the act. I thought hand-kissing was allowed.”

“No, not that. The thing you said. About . . . about not getting your fill of me last night.”

“Oh, that.” Enzo picked up his coffee and took a sip.

“Yes, that. What did you mean?” My heart was racing.

“Exactly what I said. I didn’t get enough. If you were anyone else, and this was any other situation, we wouldn’t be down here eating breakfast right now. We’d still be upstairs bouncing fake rose petals off the bed.” He set his cup down. “But rules are rules, and I understand why we have to put them back in place.”

“You do?”

“Sure. It’s like you said before, when my naked ass confused you, this is still a business arrangement. We don’t want to blur the lines.” He cocked his head to one side. “Right?”

“Right.” I picked up my coffee cup and took a sip. “That’s what I said.”

After breakfast, we checked out of the inn and headed over to my condo. On the way, Enzo called Griffin to see if we might be able to borrow his truck. Griffin said it wouldn’t be a problem and even offered to help with the move. He said he’d come over to my place around one o’clock, after he finished up a few jobs at the Bellamy Creek Garage, which he owned and ran as head mechanic. It was housed in an old fire station, and he and Blair lived in an apartment above it.

In the meantime, Enzo and I transported smaller loads in the back of my car and his SUV, then rode back to the condo together, leaving my BMW in his garage. We got in one more run over to Enzo’s house before Blair and Griffin showed up together. Blair had brought sandwiches from the bakery, and we took a quick lunch break before loading up the back of the truck with the rest of the boxes.

Over at Enzo’s house, everyone helped to carry my stuff inside. More than half the boxes went upstairs to the guest room Enzo had set aside for me, which was spacious and beautifully decorated. It held a queen-sized bed with a headboard upholstered in charcoal gray suede, a dresser painted black with a silver-framed mirror above it, and a black nightstand. The walls were painted a soft shade of pewter, and the white bedding looked surprisingly plush. There was even a vase of white roses on the dresser.

The sight of those roses made my pulse race—it was the kind of sweet, thoughtful gesture I was learning Enzo liked to perform. But that was just it—it was a performance.

I looked away from them.

Right across the hall, I had my own bathroom, sparkling clean, and stocked with fluffy white towels. He’d even purchased my favorite shampoo and conditioner, which he must have seen in my condo bathroom at some point.

Damn him. Why did he have to turn out to be so thoughtful? So generous? So good in bed?

It was just like him to aggravate me this way.

I mean, which was the real him, the cocky bastard who made me say all that bullshit during our vows or the nice guy who brought me flowers?

Blair came upstairs with me, ostensibly to help me unpack, but mostly she just wanted the scoop.

“So? How was the wedding night?” She sank down on the bed and wiggled her eyebrows at me.

The guys were downstairs, way out of earshot, but I still went over and shut my bedroom door. “It was good.”

“Elaborate please. Were there shenanigans?”

I opened one box and began to put socks, bras, and underwear into drawers. “There may have been a shenanigan or two.”

Behind me, Blair squealed. “I knew it!”

I spun around to see her on her back, kicking her feet in the air. “What do you mean?”

She sat up again. “After
