Call Me Crazy (Bellamy Creek #3) - Melanie Harlow Page 0,53

them up. “Unless you want to hang out in here and stare at my butt all day.”

That’s when I realized he could see me staring at his ass in the mirror. My face went red. “I wasn’t staring at your butt!”

He grinned. “No?”

“No.” Flustered, I stood up. “I just . . . noticed it, that’s all. It was right at my eye level. But from now on, if you wouldn’t mind not walking around naked, I would appreciate it. Despite what happened last night, this is still a business arrangement. I don’t want us to blur the lines and get confused.”

“Ten minutes ago you said I didn’t have to hide behind a sheet because you’d already seen me naked.” He put on deodorant, obviously amused.

It had been a long time since I’d watched a man get dressed—I’d forgotten how it could be just as intimate as watching him get undressed. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. “I just want us to be clear that the rules are back in place.”

“Don’t worry. We’ll have our own bedrooms at my house, so my naked ass will not confuse you.” He tossed his deodorant back in the bag and pulled a white T-shirt over his head.

“Are we still moving me in today?” I asked, watching his abs disappear beneath the cotton in the mirror, more than a little sad to see them go.

“Works for me.”

“Good. I’m all packed up. Might take us a few trips, but everything is in boxes ready to go.” I watched him tug a blue sweater over his head and realized I was still standing there gawking, so I turned and went for the bathroom. “I’ll just blow dry my hair and then we can go eat.”

In the bathroom, I shut the door, turned the blow dryer on cool, and aimed it at my face.

“So what are the chances that we actually, you know, did the thing last night?” Enzo took a bite of his omelette and looked at me curiously.

“That we actually what?” I asked, buttering a piece of toast.

“Saved time and money. Completed phase two.”

I lowered my voice to a whisper. “Oh—you mean, what are the chances I got pregnant?”

“Yeah.”

I took a bite of toast and shrugged. “I have no clue. Like I said yesterday, I don’t ovulate normally. So I’m never sure what my fertile days are. But if I had to guess, I’d say slim to none.”

“I don’t really get that whole ‘fertile days’ stuff. So you can’t just get pregnant any time? You have to wait for certain days?”

“I mean, I think it’s technically possible to get pregnant at any time, but it’s unlikely. Especially for me.”

His expression was dubious, like he didn’t believe me. “But we did it like four times last night. I feel like I hit the target at least once.”

I laughed, reaching for my coffee. “This isn’t like throwing darts, Enzo. It’s not dependent on your skill level, impressive as it may be.”

“You were impressed with my skill level, huh?”

“Maybe,” I said coyly. “Certainly your stamina. Your enthusiasm. And the, um, size of your equipment. I definitely stand corrected on that count.”

His smile was one of total self-satisfaction. “Thank you. I work well under a deadline.”

I tilted my head, squinting at him. “So you’re saying it was work?”

“Okay, I perform well under pressure. Is that better?”

“Marginally.”

“Look, I was racing against the clock, that’s all I meant. I kept thinking you were going to say time’s up, clause is null and void, contract is back in place. I had to try to get my fill of you before you closed up shop.”

“And did you?”

“Get my fill of you?” His eyes held mine, flickering with mischief. “Honestly, no.”

My stomach flipped. I set my coffee cup down, and it rattled on the saucer. “What are you saying?”

“I’m not saying anything. I was answering your question.”

Our eyes were still locked when our server, Shelly, appeared. “And how are my newlyweds?” she asked, refilling our coffee cups.

“Good,” Enzo said.

I still couldn’t speak.

“So are you heading off on a honeymoon?” Shelly smiled wistfully at us. “Somewhere warm and sunny?”

“No, Shelly, we are not.” Enzo turned on the charm, reaching across the table to take my hand. “Believe it or not, I offered to take my beautiful bride anywhere she wanted to go, anywhere in the world, and you know what she said?”

“What?” Shelly was rapt.

Enzo looked at me and smiled disarmingly. “She said she didn’t need fancy trips to exotic locales. Just being married to
