Chapter Eighteen

Brick

I’m fucking pissed. It’s been a total of three months since we’ve been at my folk’s place. Jessa doesn’t say anything, but I can tell that she’s growing impatient.

Not that I blame her. At least I get to leave a few times a week. She’s stuck at the house with round the clock protection.

“I have never, in my entire life, had this much difficulty tracking someone down,” Slim grumps. “It’s almost as if whoever took her just completely vanished off the face of the planet.”

“Or like they don’t exist.”

I turn to face the new voice, ready to beat his fucking face in.

“Shut up, man, before you get dead,” Bear warns.

“I didn’t mean that how it sounded,” the man says. He’s a big fucker. Almost as big as me. He ties back his long black hair before continuing.

“My name is Waya,” he says. “But you can call me Wolf.”

“Wolf was transferred from our new Columbus Chapter,” Bear says. “He’s moved down here to help his sister with her son.”

I watch as Slim, Hawk, and Chains shake the newcomers’ hand.

“I meant no disrespect,” he tells me. “What I should have said was that they could have gone off the grid. If they did, then even someone as smart as your computer man wouldn’t be able to find them.”

I fight back my inner beast and shake Wolf’s hand.

“Sorry, brother,” I say. “I’m just so fucking aggravated, and it doesn’t take much to get that reaction out of me these days.”

“Think nothing of it,” he says. “Prez told me what happened. I know I’m the new guy here, but I promise to help you find the persons responsible.”

“I appreciate that, man.”

Turning to Bear, I say, “I’m thinking about taking Jessa back to my place.”

“I don’t blame you,” he says. “Besides, with your house being so close to the clubhouse, we can all watch over her better.”

“Not to mention the girls have been wanting to see her,” Slim adds.

My property is just behind the Sons clubhouse. When Roman Hernandez burned down the original building, I told Bear about the empty lot beside mine. The fact that I was the only neighbor for a fair bit of miles sold him on the idea.

“Why didn’t you just bring her to your place to start with?” Wolf asks.

“She was physically and emotionally fragile after she was rescued,” I explain. “Not to mention she didn’t really know me all that well. I figured it wouldn’t do her any good to be kept inside a house with a stranger. At least at the farm, there are always people around.”

Wolf nods his understanding.

“I’m going to head on home,” Chains says. “Bella is due to be induced the day after tomorrow.”

“We’re still good to watch Sophia,” Bear tells him. “Daisy is finally at that age where she’s awake for longer than ten minutes.”

“Sophia will love that,” Chains laughs. “She keeps praying that Daisy grows up overnight so they can play with toys together.”

We all chuckle. Sophia is always talking one of us into playing dolls with her.

“See ya, brother,” I walk over and pat Chains’ shoulder. “Call me if you need anything.”

He nods and heads out.

When Jessa gets pregnant, because it is now a vital mission of mine, I don’t think I’ll ever let her out of my sight.

“I should probably go, too,” I say. “I need to relieve Trigger an…”

My ringing cell interrupts me. Looking at the screen, I see that it’s Trigger.

“Yeah,” I answer.

“Brick, please tell me that your fucking woman is right there beside you?”

My stomach drops to the floor.

“No, she isn’t. I left her there at the farm.”

“MOTHERFUCKER,” I hear Ink scream.

“Get here now,” Trigger growls. “I’ve searched everywhere, and I can’t find her.”

I don’t think, I just run. I jump on my bike and race towards my parent’s farm. I have enough sense not to get killed and to notice the two bikes that follow.

Bear and Wolf pull in the driveway just seconds after I do.

I hear Bear introduce Wolf to Trigger and Ink behind me as I run inside and upstairs to our room. I was hoping to find some clue as to where she is, but I find nothing. Her stuff remains where it was when I left.

Running downstairs, I look for my parents.

“Son, I’m so sorry,” My dad says as soon as I find them on the front porch. “She wanted to hike the horse’s trail, but I told her
