her because you're falling in love with this different version of her," Logan finishes quietly.
Quaid doesn't answer, at least not verbally. I can't see them, so I don't know if he shook his head or not.
"She's still that girl in all the ways that count," Logan assures him. "I still feel more myself with her than I've ever felt with anyone else. Her laugh may be more reserved, but I still ache in a good way every time I hear it. Her eyes still light up when she's learning something new. I still miss her the second she walks out of the room."
"But why do you still feel that way? Is it because you're longing for the good old days?" Quaid interjects desperately.
I can almost feel the eye roll that Logan just gave Quaid. "I heard you when we were out there swimming. I heard the desperation in your voice. Don't doubt what you're feeling now."
I close the door and stop listening in after that. I didn't deserve Logan. I didn't deserve any of them, but I especially didn't deserve that kind of devotion.
Another hour passes, and I've stayed like a coward in my room, my mind in turmoil about everything.
A knock on the door sounds. Logan pops his head in before I can say anything.
"Hi," he says with a shy grin. I give him a sad smile in return. "I have a question for you. And it's okay if you aren't in the mood," he begins.
"What is it?" I ask warily.
"Do you want to go on a date?" he asks.
My mouth drops open for a second. I guess that shouldn't have been the least likely thing for me to expect to come out of his mouth.
"Is that a no?" he questions disappointed, and I realize that I've just been sitting on the bed, gaping at him.
"No, of course not!" I tell him hurriedly.
"Oh okay. Maybe another time?" he asks, turning to leave.
"Wait, I mean yes, yes I want to go on a date with you!"
I think I'll remember the answering smile on my sun god's face for the rest of my life.
Logan is practically vibrating next to me. "Everything okay?" I ask, smoothing down my navy skirt nervously.
"I just don't want us to miss out on the first part of our date," he tells me with a wink before anxiously peering through the window of our cab.
"Does it close early?"
"Something like that," he says mysteriously, grabbing my hand in his and squeezing it.
The car winds its way up some hills until I see the ruins of Gibralfaro Castle up ahead.
"Are we touring that?" I ask excitedly. I had it on my list of places to go, and now I'm the one practically dancing in my seat as we pull up to the front entrance of the ancient stone fortress.
A smiling older woman with silver hair waves at us as we get out of the cab. "Logan Cooper Party?" she asks in a heavy Spanish accent.
"That's us," he answers in perfect Spanish, and I look at him in surprise. Again, he just gives me that infuriatingly sexy wink.
Lucia leads us on a private tour of the fortress. I keep getting distracted from what she's saying by the amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea and the city. "I'll leave you two here for now and come get you later," she tells us, gesturing to a seating area where you can see everything.
"I'll have you know that I looked this up and ‘watching the sunset from Gibralfaro Castle’ was number one on the Google search for Malaga dates," he tells me in a mock-stern voice as we settle in on the bench to watch the most amazing sunset that I've ever seen.
A cool breeze brushes across our faces as we watch the sky change colors before our eyes. I lean my head against Logan's shoulder. It feels so surreal that I can actually do that.
Lucia doesn't come back until the sun has completely slipped away and stars are starting to peek out. "What did you think?" she asks delightedly.
"I've never seen a prettier sunset," I tell her honestly, and her smile expands across her face as she claps her hands in front of her.
She leads us out of the fortress where another cab is waiting and kisses both of my cheeks and Logan's cheeks before sending us on our way.
"I think that's the best date I've ever been on," I tell him as I cuddle up to his side.
"That was just the
