way his raven hair curled around his ears!
“This is Angelo,” my father said. “From now on, he will be completely in charge of your safety. You are not to be or go anywhere without him, until I say otherwise.”
My heart leapt into my throat.
In a daze, I watched my father as he grabbed his phone, and a bunch of keys from his desk, told Angelo that he was off in Italian, and walked past me without even glancing at me. He was that disgusted with me.
The plans I’d already set in motion to escape later that evening flashed before my eyes as I stood there rooted in shock.
By the time I found the wits to spin around, my father had already reached the door. If he’d assigned someone to follow me around day and night, that would mean his teeth were already sunk into me. I didn’t know if it was even possible to escape now, but even though I knew, at the very least, I’d lost this round, I couldn’t just let it go. I had to show I wouldn’t make it easy. I would fight to my last breath. “Is this your plan?” I demanded furiously. “Because I refuse to marry Fabio, your next course of action is to imprison me?”
Ignoring me, my father continued on his way, and shut the door closed behind him.
I was fuming, my breath coming in harsh painful puffs, but I could do absolutely nothing. I turned around and saw that Angelo had not moved.
Not even turned around to see what went on behind him. He just carried on sitting there like some Roman statue.
“And fuck you too,” I spat viciously as I headed towards the door. When I pulled it open, I sensed him rise to follow me. He was to be my shadow, and it made me want to smash my head into the wall. Again, nothing I could do about it, at least not right now, so I just walked as quickly as I could away from him. I considered running, so he would have to run to keep up, but I decided against it. That would be undignified and do nothing to further my real plans.
While I made my way across the kitchen though, I realized I couldn’t hear the sound of his footsteps, even though I could sense he still followed me closely. Still, he was as silent as a ghost. I couldn’t even pick up on the sound of his breathing. How could a man so big be that silent?
I had reached the staircase and began to climb it when I couldn’t take it anymore. I swung around suddenly and faced him.
He stopped only a few feet away. The baseball hat that hung low on his head hindered me from properly seeing his face. He wore a white t-shirt, black leather jacket, and a pair of black jeans that sat snug and low around his lean hips.
My mouth instantly watered at the sight of him, but I gave myself a quick mental slap. I’d never been a fool around a man before, and I certainly would not be starting with him of all people.
He raised his head then and directly met my gaze.
My knees weakened, and I clutched the banister for support, but to my everlasting pride and joy, my voice came out dry and cynical, “Wow! What a turn up for the books. You’re now my bodyguard when you left me to drown to my death a couple of days ago?”
He said nothing, just stared at me.
This infuriated me even more. “Did you tell my father what happened at the pool?” I taunted. “He definitely wouldn’t have assigned this job to you if he was aware of your rude behavior.”
Angelo slipped his hands into his pockets and with a low, long-suffering sigh, looked beyond me up the staircase.
I glared at him. Never in my life had I met someone as arrogant as this man. “You’re not going to speak to me? You’re going to keep ignoring me?”
“Sienna,” he said quietly.
The command in his tone instantly held my attention.
“Let’s make this situation bearable for the both of us. My job is to guard you, and I will do just that. Please refrain from any other unnecessary communication.”
“Did I do something to offend you, or are you just naturally a dick?”
I saw the anger flare in his gaze and didn’t miss the slight fear that tightened my core, but I also couldn’t ignore the buzz of arousal seriously
