platform SIN shoes instead. They were OK for the first couple of hours, but after that my feet really started hurting. I'm going to try and find a new pair here because I just CAN'T go out without platforms!
Aidan, looking hunkalicious in black, showed up with his dad's car. Brother insisted on doing the father thing and grilled him about the date.
“Emily has to be back by one,” he said once Aidan explained about the club. “I will remind you that she is only sixteen, and neither her mother nor I want her drinking.”
“Brother, you are so embarrassing me!” I hissed, and tugged on Aidan's sleeve to get him away from the horrible man who spawned me.
“If you plan on drinking, you are not to drive Emily home.”
GAH!
“Don't worry about Emily, sir. I'll take good care of her.”
Poor Aidan, driven to say “sir” by the ramblings of a deranged, tyrannical father.
Brother narrowed his eyes at Aidan, the Unibrow and hair horn making him look even more than normal like a rhinoceros. “And no sex! I absolutely forbid any sort of sex! She's too young.”
“BRO-THER!” I prayed for the earth to open right up and swallow me, but it didn't. Then I prayed for it to swallow Brother, but when are my prayers ever answered?
Aidan gave Brother a kind of strained smile. “Mr. Williams, I—”
“Nothing. No inappropriate touching, nothing. You understand me?”
I thought lovingly of the roll of duct tape up in my room, and how much I'd like to see it across my father's face at that moment.
“I respect Emily, sir,” Aidan said, all righteous and gentlemanly and really, really fabu. “I would never dishonor her.”
I groaned and sat down on the hall bench. You know what the word “honor” does to my medieval-minded father.
“It's a good thing you mentioned honor,” Brother said, and went into a ten minute spiel of how ye olde knights of yore honored women, and what was wrong with society today that couldn't be fixed by a wallop upside the head with a sword or two. I think that's what he was going on about—I really wasn't paying too much attention. Instead I was wondering exactly how you draw and quarter someone, and whether it would be enough to SHUT BROTHER UP.
Honestly, I could have killed him right then and there, but Aidan would probably think the worst of me, so I didn't. I figured I'd kill him after I came home.
We finally escaped. I apologized all the way to the Polo Club, but Aidan, who was the absolute most perfect man, just laughed and told me his father is worse with his sisters.
The Polo Club was on the other side of POTW. I don't know what it has to do with polo, 'cause the place is in the basement of a warehouse. There's, like, a million steps down to it, and the floor is cement (which is probably why my feet hurt), and there's big steel girders with Christmas lights wrapped around them every twenty feet or so, and exposed pipes, and the place smells like rusty pond water.
In other words, it was completely über-coolio.
It was really packed, lots of people, music from a CD booming away while the band was setting up, and everyone was dancing, dancing, dancing. Aidan grabbed my hand and dragged me to the rear, where a bunch of round tables and those little white plastic chairs people have on their patios were set up.
“There's the lads,” he said, and hauled me over to where Fang and Devon were. Devon had two girls with him: a redhead with her hair spiked out stood behind him rubbing his shoulders, and a blonde with long poofy hair (it must take a whole bottle of hair spray to get it looking like that) who was rubbing her hand up and down his leg. Even so, he grinned at me and winked, and did a little wolf whistle when he looked over the slashed tiger fishnet dress. I thought about giving him the Slitted-Eye Look of Pure Scorn for flirting with me when there were two other girls practically slobbering on him, but decided I'd better not. He was very hot in leather pants and a kind of see-through red shirt, and he had a tattoo of a dragon coiled around his left arm, and you know how I love tats!
I sat next to Fang, who smiled and asked me how school was going. I chatted with him for a bit when Aidan left
