there was more there when it came to Hunt, but it would have to wait.
Just as I was about to ask, we pulled into the parking lot at the hospital.
Seconds later the doors were open and we were hurrying into a room.
“Now, tell me everything that happened,” a doctor that Ford knew ordered.
***
“This is beginning to be a habit,” Zach, the doctor that had dealt with Ashe, Ford’s good friend, said as he walked into the room. “Now, I won’t make the same mistake as last time. Family only. Everyone else needs to leave.”
“They’re all family,” Amelia grumbled from behind closed eyelids. The nurse that’d been in before had given her a dose of some pain meds. “Now, kindly get the fuck on with it, Zach.”
Zach grinned. “Even beaten and bruised you still have an attitude problem, squirt.”
Amelia flipped him off without opening her eyes.
Zach grinned. “It’s kind of personal, Amelia. Are you sure that you want me to say it?”
Amelia slipped one eye open. “Everyone here is family. Just like I would have no problem telling them whatever is wrong to you.”
“That’s likely the cause of her erratic blood sugar,” Zach mused as he looked at his chart. “You mentioned when she was en route that she’s diabetic, and that her blood sugars have been a bit off lately, correct?”
“Oh my God,” Sawyer said, sounding excited.
I wasn’t sure where he was going with what he was saying.
“What’s likely?” I asked.
“Sorry,” Zach said. “I was having half of this conversation in my head again. The pregnancy is likely the cause of her erratic blood sugar. Not far along at all. Two weeks at most, based on the blood levels. Speaking of blood levels, her sugar is off again. We’re going to give her some meds to bring that blood sugar back up. That’s likely why she’s so out of it.”
“I’m sorry, but can you speak up? I can’t fucking hear you,” Amelia grumbled.
Zach rolled his eyes but spoke up. “You’re pregnant.”
“I’m sorry,” Silas said for the first time since he’d entered. “She’s what?”
Silas’ eyes, though? Those were aimed at me. And he looked like he wanted to take out my teeth by punching me in the face one at a time.
“I thought that was due to the meds that were given to her,” Sawyer asked. “The lethargy.”
Sawyer.
Apparently the only one capable of forming coherent thoughts at that moment in time.
Son of a bitch.
“Now?” Zach asked. “Or before?”
I pinched the bridge of my nose.
“I’m on birth control,” Amelia said, weakly holding up her arm. “In fact, I’m pretty sure you were the one to assure me that this one was best for me. You told me when you put this alien piece of technology in me that…” Her breath hitched. “How am I supposed to go work for the FBI if I’m pregnant?”
Something changed on Silas’ face. His look went from ‘I’m about to rip out all of your ball hairs’ to ‘Oh, that’s interesting. How convenient.’
Sam and Sebastian, though?
They still looked pissed.
Damn, we should’ve emptied the room for this.
“You know,” Booth drawled. “This was exactly how Dillan found out she was pregnant. In a roomful of our SWAT team.”
I looked over at Booth with a tic starting at my eye and making its way down the left side of my face.
“Ashe, too,” Ford said jovially. “It’ll be okay, man. Just take a deep breath.”
They just didn’t understand.
It wasn’t that Amelia was pregnant.
I didn’t care—well, I cared—about that. I cared about the fact that she’d been beaten to hell and back. Oh, and that her family was now looking at me like they were about to kill me.
And I didn’t want to have whatever discussion they wanted to have because that would require me to leave Amelia.
And that wasn’t fucking happening.
“If my girl ever gets to the point where she needs medical attention, I will not be bringing her to this hospital,” Sammy muttered mostly to himself.
Bourne shot him an amused look. “And you think that by not bringing her here it’s going to change anything? What I would suggest is just keeping your penis wrapped. Then, maybe, you might not end up in the same position as all of the rest of them.”
Booth turned his gaze to rest on his brother. “Just give it time, brother. You may not have a pregnant wife yet, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.”
Bourne scoffed. “I’ll get her pregnant eventually, yes,” he agreed. “But it’ll be on our own terms. We’ll
