badly to change it for them. I think if the law were on his side a little more he’d have adopted a hundred kids.

Everyone else who uses the term isn’t being so kind.

“Having support is really important while you’re in college. I think you’d have a lot more if you were staying on campus but family is good too. Are they happy with your decision to move here and attend Southern Miss?”

I force a smile. “Oh, they’re thrilled to have me home. Life is great here and I’ll have so much support while I study.”

He nods as though he’s really thinking about what I’m saying and grabs one of the notebooks from his desk. “Look, I think it would be best if we scheduled in some time each semester to keep in touch and make sure you’re keeping up with your classes.”

That sounds like a pile of steaming shit waiting to happen. “Sure! Sounds great, let’s schedule the first one now so I can keep the day clear on my calendar.”

He grins that easy grin at me again and fills out a card, handing it over and making sure his fingers brush mine. It’s a dick move and one I was expecting so I manage to keep the shudder to myself.

“Call me if you need anything. My office line is on the front but I’ve popped my personal cell phone number on the back in case you need anything out of office hours.”

Sleaze-bag. “That’s so thoughtful, thanks.”

He doesn’t notice my dry tone at all, just leans back in his chair and stares at me expectantly, like he’s waiting for me to flirt with him or hand him my number.

Fuck, I might change mine after this meeting.

“Look I’ve got work and family waiting on me. Thank you for all of your… specialized attention, I’ll be in touch.”

I see the challenge light up in his eyes and my stomach drops.

Fuck.

I don’t wanna be on anyone’s radar.

I just want to disappear.

Chapter Four

Tomi

The party for King’s return lasts a full week.

It’s stupid and it’s reckless but the club also needs something to distract the brothers. Something to make them all forget about the rats, the pigs, and the Demons breathing down our fucking necks.

I don’t forget it though.

Neither does my family, no matter how fucking wasted we all get, there’s no forgetting the betrayal that’s going down in my fucking house. The rats that have been sleeping under our roof, the traitors who eat at our table, no matter how hard I party I won’t ever forget about that.

I’m a Callaghan through and through, so when I wake up after the party finally ends I’ve never been so fucking hungover in my life. Well, that’s a lie.

I once had to drink Rue under the table to stop him from ruining his own fucking life. That was a hangover I never want to repeat.

Nothing worse than feeling like death warmed up so I drag my sorry ass to take a shower to try to clean myself the hell up. We have church this morning with the Shreveport charter before they head back home and there’s more than enough business to cover with them that’ll require a sharp brain.

I stand under the cold water for ten minutes before I switch it to hot and scrub up, rinsing the whiskey and beer outta my skin where the shit is leaking outta my fucking pores. I shave the scuff off of my face and throw on the last of my clean clothes. I should probably let one of the biker bitches clean up around here but the last time I let one of them into my room I’d come back to my desk being fucked around with and with the rat situation I can’t afford to have people messing around with my shit.

If any of them knows a thing about security cameras and surveillance equipment we’ll be in trouble, I need them to stay unaware of just how much of this shit I’m leaving around everywhere.

When I get out into the clubhouse, I find Rue looking like shit warmed up at the bar and when I park my ass on the barstool next to his he grunts at me.

“Church in ten. King wants us to go over some shit before we meet with Luis and his crew. They’re leaving today, thank fuck.”

I smirk at him and grab the bottle of beer he’s nursing, finishing it in one go. “If you’re feeling that fucking wrung out you should probably
