to Lena’s age than mine.
“She’s a unicorn shifter,” Hunter admitted, “but that is kept a secret because humans have hunted them to near extinction.”
“You have other shifters than wolves?” I asked curiously. I felt a bit stupid post question because I was here and clearly not a wolf, not to mention their rabbit sister.
“Any shifters are welcome to join our pack,” Hunter admitted out loud. “Some choose not to, but most crave stability.”
I loved that. Really, his words made me irrationally happy.
“I am so hungry,” Dylan mumbled, helping me remember the food that had been set down in front of us.
My stomach rumbled as I blushed and sat down, far more hungry than I cared to admit.
Luca offered me a concerned look, but I waved him off and began eating.
Eating amazing flippin’ food. No really, you know what was the best type of food? Comfort food. I had never been weird about what I’d eaten, but my mother had been. To the point that she used to put a lock on the cabinets and fridge. Yeah… it was pretty awful in retrospect. I had always loved comfort food though and whenever I wasn’t with her, I usually went towards that rather than healthy food.
So when I saw the mashed potatoes and homemade Mac & Cheese on my plate, I dug right in. I wasn’t a huge meat eater, weird considering I was a shifter, but I was never one to turn down some steak either. Honestly, I was thinking that living with shifters meant delicious food all the time because every meal I’d had since arriving here had been superb. Probably helped that my new best friend owned a bakery.
“Do you want to go on the run with the rest of the pack after dinner?” Luca asked, looking a tad nervous.
I nodded and his face lit up. Had he been worried I would say no? I don’t think I had it in me to say no to him.
“It will be good for your fox, she probably wants to get out a bit,” Hunter rumbled as my fox perked up, offering me an innocent look. Right. I’m sure the three massive wolves by her weren’t influencing her decision making at all.
I wasn’t about to complain though. It was good to be around people that were encouraging me to be more in tune with my real self after growing up so much the opposite.
“Sounds great,” I commented lightly as I reached over and grabbed one of Dylan’s biscuits off his plate.
His head snapped up as he offered me an alarmed look.
I smirked, taking a big bite and relaxing into my chair, not feeling apologetic at all. The man had five of them! He could spare one!
“You’re going to get it later,” he warned through our connection as my cheeks warmed. I was very curious to know what his version of punishment would be.
I honestly couldn’t tell you how long we sat there, talking occasionally, but mostly my ears were perked up listening to everyone around us. The pack dynamic was so relaxed and everyone seemed… happy. That was the only way I could describe it. Everyone seemed very happy so far in Willowdale Village.
That was why when I heard a raised voice from the hall, followed by the slamming of a door and a flash of teal hair, I was surprised no one paid any mind.
“Screw you, Liam!” Lena’s voice was angry as she stormed into the room.
“Shit,” Dylan muttered.
I stood up concerned as Hunter joined me, his sister storming towards us through the dining hall. My eyes moved towards the door where a handsome man stood, dressed in a police uniform, looking frustrated as hell. His eyes were locked right on Lena, so I was going to take a wild guess here and assume he was Liam.
“You won’t believe this shit!” Lena growled reaching the table. I could see she was angry but I could also see that she was hurt, her gold eyes filled with near tears.
Hunter let out a frustrated growl as I put a hand on his forearm, his body relaxing a bit. Well, that was flattering.
“Hunter,” Lena snapped, “I have no idea why you support Willowdale’s police force. They suck, they all fucking suck.” Tears started streaming down her face and I rounded the table as I pulled her into a hug.
I offered the boys a look, hoping they wouldn’t do anything drastic, before walking her towards the patio door.
She pushed through the door angrily and immediately
