Voiceless - M. Sinclair Page 0,21
you. If the others are even slightly the same, they will understand. I don’t think they would want to lose you. Just sit down and talk with them. Trust me. I could see how much Ari missed you.”
“You think so?” She offered me a vulnerable look. I couldn’t help but feel special that she’d come to me about this. I’d never had a friend like Lena who was so instantly loyal and nice to me. I offered her the best answer I could.
“Absolutely, they would be crazy to force you to choose -- Lena!”
I burst out laughing as she screamed and fell off her chair, my hands flying to my mouth as I realized I’d communicated with her telepathically. Ah shit. That’s sort of cool, though.
“You just spoke in my head!” She jumped up, her tiny frame bouncing like an actual bunny. “Have you always been able to do that?”
“Yes. It only works if I feel a real emotional connection to someone and you’re the first real friend I've had.” I admitted feeling a bit awkward, but her smile grew. I had told her a bit about my family so she understood better than anyone that this was a bit of a big deal to me. I mean, heck, some people were just meant to be best friends, and that was totally us.
She squinted and her voice echoed back through our connection. “Do the guys know? Side note, this is so fucking cool. I am talking to you in your flippin’ head!”
I shrugged with a small sigh. “I was sort of waiting to see if that would develop naturally…”
Lena nodded and bounced on her toes. “I will keep it a secret but I bet you anything that it happens soon, I mean they are your mates!”
My eyes widened as she winced and froze. “I just said that, didn’t I?”
“I sort of knew,” I admitted, smiling sheepishly. “Just have no idea how to deal with it.”
“I totally imagined your voice just like this by the way,” she pointed out. Grinned and then sat back down. “Well, that makes shit easier and on top of that now we can talk shit about annoying people while working.” My smile grew, loving that was where her head had gone.
Before I could say anything, the door opened and my chest warmed at the sight of Luca standing in the entryway. His blonde hair was dripping with rainwater as he shrugged off his dress jacket, revealing a buttoned shirt that was on his muscular hot body, paired with dress pants and leather shoes. He was so damn sexy.
I hadn’t seen him since the first day, but instantly a warm affection surrounded me, causing me to say ‘fuck it’ as I stood up and essentially threw myself into his arms.
He chuckled, dropped his coat as his leather scent surrounded me, and I buried my face in his warm neck.
I heard Lena shout something and close her bedroom door, but I couldn’t focus on that. I pulled back and looked into his warm velvet eyes that were filled with scorching heat.
“God, you are so fucking beautiful,” he mumbled, cupping my jaw and then smirked slightly, using one of his hands to sign the same exact thing.
Now, I had always been a bit nervous when it came to being the first one to do anything, but I had promised things would change for me. I would not be invisible anymore. Voiceless. I would be stronger. More decisive. I was also in the arms of a man who literally learned a new language just so he could talk to me… so I took a risk and kissed him.
A low growl ripped from his throat as our lips met, his one hand wrapping around my waist to press me against him while the other gripped the back of my neck in a possessive hold, allowing him to devour my lips.
His instant dominance had everything inside of me turning to goo, the taste of his lips caused a shiver to roll through me. Grip hardening on my body to an almost bruising hold. My pulse accelerated and everything snapped together between us, making me realize that our connection was far stronger than I’d ever assumed.
I pulled back, out of breath and feeling dizzy. “Holy shit.”
Luca’s eyes widened as my entire frame froze. Had I just… no fucking way. Clearly, my magic had decided to get settled and fucking comfortable here.
“I’m not crazy, right?” he asked roughly. “Your voice was just in my
