Voiceless - M. Sinclair Page 0,16

staring at us, mainly pack members, but that didn’t bother me much. They should get used to her being around considering she would be such an essential part of their community.

I hoped she’d come to love Willowdale Village as much as my brothers and I did. Of course, if she asked me to move and leave my pack, I would. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind. But the town was unlike any other I’d come across in twenty-six years. Between summits as an Alpha and family travel, I’d been to a good amount of places. I was glad now that I never moved away because I couldn’t imagine having never met our mate and I had only known her for an hour and a half at most.

Colette.

It was a stunning name that suited the elegant woman that was standing between us. My brother looked like he was about to explode with excitement as she laughed at something he said. I couldn’t help but feel a bit happy for him because I knew he was a romantic. He’d always wanted a mate but recently had lost hope, so this was everything he could have wanted. I’d never considered myself particularly romantic, but I was questioning all of that right now. Now my pack didn’t seem nearly as important as her.

It was surreal having her here in our home. I looked around the center pavilion of the village, trying to see what she saw from Bunny Bites to the local police and fire station. I hoped she saw a place she could spend the rest of her life in. The mountains maintained a heavy fog over our town, but the sun was breaking through as if it too was trying to convince her to stay.

Not that she completely had a choice if we were being honest. As far as I was concerned, she’d left her old home for a fresh start. I didn’t know all the details… but here we were. Her new home. Her new life. With us. I sounded like an absolute psycho.

A few pack members offered polite nods in passing, everyone watching Colette with surprise as we passed a local restaurant. I looked down at my mate, wondering if she was hungry for more than the breakfast sandwich my sister had handed her on our way out of the bakery. My wolf let out a low rumble in agreement, supporting the concept of feeding her. I let out a frustrated sound at how much of an opinionated bastard he could be. Suppose that made me one too, right?

“Sorry, little fox.” I offered her a small smile, realizing she’d looked up at me with concern.

She nodded and went back to listening to my brother.

How much convincing would it take to get her to move in with us? I would feel much better if she was in our house where I could control her safety. Plus, it was absolutely massive so her fox would have plenty of room and as Luna, it would be best for her to live there. See? I was really just being rational here.

I smiled slightly thinking about how the pack would once again be surprised by their Luna. My mother, who had been a rabbit shifter, had been a fantastic leader, and I had a feeling Colette would be much the same. Wolves were aggressive by nature, but sometimes you needed more than that. Sometimes you needed a different type of strength to balance that out while leading a large group of people.

The strength coming off Colette was very apparent and while she came off as a bit shy, I had a feeling she could be strong when she needed to. Honestly, it probably came from the assholes who no doubt discounted her opinions because she couldn’t talk. I planned on following Luca’s path and learning sign language so that my mate wasn’t stuck texting me all day. Because I wanted to talk to her literally all day. I wasn’t as selfless as Luca though, I needed to be around her. So it would have to wait until tonight.

“Alpha Hunter!”

Maker help me. The voice was a familiar one; I muttered a curse as a man jogged out of the police station. Colette frowned at my expression and narrowed her eyes at Ari as if upset. It was fucking adorable if we were being honest.

I held in the momentary urge to kiss the shit out of her, not wanting to scare her away. I also didn’t
