Seventh Seal - Jacquelyn Faye Page 0,95
shadows over the seated area, not a single ounce of sunshine could touch them. It would be dark by the time the ceremony was over and they would be free to join the reception. It had all worked out nicely for once. "I'm glad they could all come."
"They are, too."
"They should be. You're their new Lord, after all." I ruffled her spiked hair.
"Still can't believe you did that to me." She stuck her tongue out. "And I prefer Lady to Lord."
"Hmm. That sounds kind of familiar. And you know, my role is to guide, not to rule."
"Yeah. Yeah. You still make a better scarier vampire than I do."
"Oh, shush. You're very scary, Sweetie."
Yuki giggled and wandered off to join the other vampires, even though she didn't need to sit in the dark. I just wanted to pinch her cheeks. She looked adorable in her red dress. It wasn't often that she let me doll her up, and I fully took advantage of the situation.
"You look beautiful, Master," Dar said as he snuck up behind me and planted a kiss on my cheek.
"You really do, Dot." Dennis reiterated as he stepped up beside Jimmy.
"You do," Derek said as he walked past our little group, Sherry grinning like a fool as she hung from his arm. "Why thank you, Mr. Flynn. Looking mighty beautiful yourself, too, Mrs. Flynn."
"Thanks, Dot!" Sherry grinned even more.
Nana and Mother walked by, both affording me with a nod. Miranda, Josie's mother, was surprisingly practically clinging to my mother. The three of them would be sitting with each other in the front row, too. I'd made sure of it. I chuckled softly to myself.
"You glad to be back home?" I asked Chief.
"A little. Not that I minded sleeping in your bed every night. Even when it was a little crowded." He winked and pulled me into a hug. "Thank you, Dot."
It had been a little over a week since I'd finally laid the ghost of his wife to rest. It had taken me almost two weeks to figure out how to do it. She'd smiled as I did, too. No ghost wants to be a ghost. I still had a sinking feeling that it had been my fault she'd been brought back to begin with. After she was laid to rest, I found the little girl in the park and sent her on her way, too. I was looking into purchasing a proton pack for the more unruly ones that had popped up wandering around town.
"Well, I'll be at the altar. Don't forget the brides, guys." I gave Jimmy and Chief a stern look. They were walking Candy and Josie down the aisle, after all.
"Who's got the rings?" Jimmy started patting down his suit jacket.
"I do." Ellis handed the two bands to Jimmy and Chief, respectively.
Not only were they walking them down the aisle, they were the maids of honor and the best men, too. When Candy and Josie asked them, they both cried. Then I cried. Then we all laughed. It was very cute. I threw up a little.
I waved at Marge and Herb as I walked down the aisle to the altar. They looked ragged. I'd offered to cater the wedding from any restaurant in the state, but the brides had insisted on diner food. Herb and Marge had been flabbergasted and honored. The only condition was that they, themselves, attended the wedding and the reception, not serve food. Tabby and the other crew were doing that.
"Looking good, Dot!" Dwight whistled as I passed.
I smiled when I recognized him. Gone was the scruffy witch who had been Jason's boss at the factory he used to work at. He was clean shaven, his hair was styled, and he had a bounce in his step that had never been there before. "Not so bad yourself, Dwight." I winked at Cedar Falls' newest police officer, still kind of mad that Chief hadn't said anything while Dwight attended the academy. He'd kept the whole thing a secret, "Just in case it hadn't worked out," he'd said. I hated surprises that weren't of my planning. At least I understood why he turned down the job at the bookstore.
Jason stepped out from behind the altar and handed me the ancient leather tome that had come straight from the museum in Ashville. Every Blackwell that had ever been married or handfasted had done so to the rites inscribed in the tome. Mother had mentioned it, Miranda insisted on it, and Josie loved the idea. Who was I to argue?
"Thanks, handsome." I slipped him a quick kiss after checking to make sure nobody was watching.
"Showtime," he said and wiggled his eyebrows.
I nodded to Shea.
The elves started playing The Wedding March and everybody drew silent. Candace and Chief were first, and they glided down the runner elegantly. Chief looked a little nervous but held it together quite nicely. Once they reached the altar, Chief bowed low and lifted the veil to kiss Candace on the cheek before settling beside her and crossing his hands.
The tempo of the music changed, and I stared in shock as the elves stood and proceeded to pound upon their instruments. The drummer pounded the bodhran and twirled the beater over his head between beats. It took me a moment before I recognized it as the opening to Thunderstruck, and my jaw dropped open as Jimmy and Josie stepped onto the runner. There was absolutely nothing elegant as they danced merrily down the runner in time with the music. It was gawdy, it was funny, and it suited them perfectly. Josie was laughing and crying as he danced her down the aisle. Even Candace was giggling beside me. Just before they reached the altar, their dancing died down, and they returned to a normal march as the music switched gears and once again the elves played the traditional wedding march.
Just as I was about to start the ceremony, the Lord and Lady appeared by the entrance to the grove and a dome of golden light sealed us inside. A spring breeze wafted through dragging the scent of flowers through the air, pushing away the chill in the air. Everybody sat straight as the magic coalesced around them. I bowed in thanks.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we gather today to join these two together in matrimony. If there is any here who thinks they should not be joined, please speak now or forever hold your peace."
It was the only concession to normal tradition in the entire ceremony. The rest would be held in Irish. Every person in the audience was holding a printed translation in their hand to follow along the ceremony. I'd practiced every night in the mirror for two weeks until I felt comfortable enough to do it. It had been beyond nerve wracking, but if it was what my sister and Candace wanted, I was sure as hell going to do it. I spoke Irish fluently, but the ceremony was archaic. But it was beautiful.
I opened my mouth to start, but Jaeren caught my eye standing beside Shea. He smiled and blew me a kiss.
Reacting without thinking, I caught it with my hand and pretended to stick it in my pocket. A few resounding coughs around me brought me back to reality and I blushed harshly as I looked back up and winked at Jaeren.
But that was a story for another day…

About the Author
A late comer to the writing game, Jacquelyn had always been a fan of romance novels and lately become addicted to the reverse harem category. I mean seriously, who wouldn't? Sitting alone one night she flipped open her laptop and said, "I'm going to give this a whirl." And thus, the Lovin' the Coven series was given life. She has designs on other series as well, but only time shall tell.
As for her, she is five-foot-something, with graying hair, wicked eyes, an eager smile, and an annoying laugh. She lives at home with her dog, a cat, and that is about all she is comfortable sharing.
