Saving the Senator's Son - Jacki James Page 0,34

I knew you were coming, and I only had to stay under the water long enough for you to get to me,” he said softly, as he slipped his hand around to my bare chest.

I dropped my eyes to his lips and his tongue darted out, moistening them. Did he realize how sexy that was? I glanced back up, and as our eyes met, I was sure he did. Still, I lowered my mouth slowly to his, giving him time to pull away, but he didn’t. Instead, he met me halfway, and what I’d intended to be a slight brush of my lips turned into something else entirely.

Trey

I watched as he slowly lowered his mouth to mine, and I knew he was giving me time to pull away, but that was the last thing I wanted to do. I could say it was the adrenaline, because getting shot at causes an adrenaline rush for sure, but that wasn’t it. I’d been wondering what Roman Barnes would taste like for days now. I had this crazy thought he was going to give me this friendly little peck on the lips, and I wasn’t having it. I reached behind his head, pulling him to me and met him halfway. Our lips touched, and a small sound escaped my throat. We kissed softly at first, but I eased my tongue past the seam of Roman’s lips. He opened for me, and I swept my tongue inside his mouth, tangling with his and tasting him. I pressed into the kiss, trying to get more. He moaned and pulled me tighter against him, taking control of the kiss.

His mouth moved over mine in a way that was intoxicating. The forceful, almost commanding way he took charge made my knees weak, and my body was feeling more alive than it ever had. I ran my hands over his bare chest, committing the way he felt to memory. If he could do this to me with just a kiss, I couldn’t imagine what making love with him would be like, but I hoped I got the chance to find out. He pulled back, and I chased the kiss, not wanting it to end, but he stopped me with a hand to my chest.

He leaned his forehead against mine and released a breath. “Damn,” he whispered.

“Yeah,” I agreed. I held my breath and waited. I expected him to say this couldn’t happen again. He was my bodyguard. He worked for my father. Or some other version of that to explain why the kiss was a mistake.

“We have to go talk to your father. He’ll be waiting.” Well, crap, that wasn’t what I expected, but he was right. The Senator would be waiting. “But, Trey?”

“Yeah,” I asked. Here it comes, I braced myself.

“We aren’t done here. I’ve been wanting to get a taste of you for days, hell, maybe even for weeks, and one kiss is not going to be enough.”

I pulled his mouth back to mine and kissed him, hard. Then I smiled. “I’m going to hold you to that. Now let’s go see my father.”

I went upstairs and got dressed, taking my time to give my lips time to recover. Being shot at could explain away a lot of things, but swollen lips wasn’t one of them. Once I was ready, we walked across to the main house. Fredrick was waiting for us at the back door.

“Your mother and father are waiting for you,” he said.

We wound our way through the house to the office where they both sat.

“Malcolm,” my mother said as soon as we entered the room. “You’re okay?”

“Yes, Mother, I’m fine. Just a cut on my shoulder from some flying glass.”

“And there wasn’t anything on the boat that would help us identify it?” my father asked.

“I didn’t see the boat, and it was speeding off by the time Roman rushed out.”

“Is that so, Mr. Barnes?” my father asked.

“Yes, sir. I was in the kitchen when I heard the shots, and by the time I made it out the door, the boat was far enough away I couldn’t see anything.”

“It had been days with no contact. I confess, I hoped he had moved on to other things.”

“What does this mean for Malcolm’s protection?” my mother asked.

“It means that we will have to take a few extra precautions. As I told him, I don’t think the person was shooting at him. The odds of all six shots hitting a target if he wasn’t aiming for them
