Millie said. Olivia and Birdie nodded in agreement.
“What about you girls?” I looked at them, but Millie shook her head.
“Stop trying to change the subject, Magnolia. This is about you right now. It’s time to text Jagger.”
“Ugh, I really don’t want to. What am I supposed to say?” I sat back and held my phone in my hand gingerly. A part of me was excited to see what would happen if I texted him, but another part of me was scared shitless. Where could this ever go? And was it even worth it to see? I could tell from last night that Jagger was as immature and rude as he’d always been.
“Actually, I have an idea.” Millie put her hand over mine and covered my phone. “Don’t text him.”
“So, I’m not texting him now?” I looked over at Jane, who looked confused. “Or I am?”
Millie looked around the table and cleared her throat. “Hear me out, girls. Yes, Magnolia deserves to have some fun, and yes, Jagger is hot and deserves to give her that fun, but let’s make him work for it.” She looked at Jane. “He leaves one note with his phone number and she’s texting back?” Her voice grew louder. “I think not. If she does that, then he will think that she’s his for the taking. He has nothing to work for. The chase ends. And yes, that might mean they have a chat and Magnolia gets laid, but what’s the fun in that? I say let him work for it, and this way you can also tell if he’s really into you or if it’s just the thrill of the chase.”
“How do I figure that out?” I put my phone back onto the table. “If I have no communication with him?”
“Oh, you’re going to have communication with him.” Millie grinned. “It’s just not going to be via text.”
“Email?”
“Hmm, not yet.” She shook her head. “If he’s a good boy, he’ll get to take it to the email level soon. No, you’re going to play him at his own game. You’re going to leave him notes.”
“Notes?” I raise an eyebrow at her. “Like he’s been leaving me?”
“Yes, but this time you will be the one instigating them.” She grinned. “Make them flirty, make them sexy, make him see that you’re still the girl that gave him a lap dance and then walked away.” She sounded super excited. “Yes, that whole ordeal was stressful and nerve-wracking, but shit, you’re brave. Not many women would do that.” She nodded. “I bet he hasn’t forgotten that night, either. You have to show him that you can play just as much as he can, but if he wants more, he needs to step up his game.”
“I guess.”
“Oh, my God, guys.” Jane sounded excited now as well. “I just had an idea. What if you left clues in your notes?”
“Clues?” I looked at her in confusion. “Clues about what?”
“Your phone number.” She nodded. “Yes, what if each note contained a number in it? Not just randomly but as part of the note. See if he can figure out that if he puts all the notes together he has your number.”
“That could be fun.” I smiled. “Almost like a mystery. I’m the clue giver and he’s the codemaster.” Suddenly I laughed. “He was knocking some code onto my door the other day.” I grinned. “Yes, that sounds fun. The only thing is, do I tell him he should look for a clue?”
“I think so,” Olivia chimed in. “I mean, how will he have any idea?”
“I know!” Birdie exclaimed. “Why don’t you include a quote from a detective novel in your first note as a sort of hint? This way you’re not directly saying, ‘find my phone number,’ because let’s be real, how hard is it going to be for him to figure out the numbers in each note are actually your phone number?”
“Yeah, true.” I nodded thoughtfully. “I’ll think of something. So what do I do, leave a note a day?”
“Yes.” Jane nodded. “But change up the times you leave them.”
“And I have another idea if you’re willing to be a little daring.” Millie took the last piece of sushi and grinned wickedly.
“How daring?”
“What if you leave him cute photos and stuff.”
“Cute photos?”
“Well, more like naughty photos.” Millie winked. “A boob shot, maybe one of you in the shower, just waking up, that sort of thing.”
“I don’t think so.” I shook my head and blushed. “That’s a bit much.”
“You can get that
