“Where’s Roq?” Doc asked.

“He’s in the truck. He said we could handle shit. We’re handling shit, but clearly not well. He’s gonna be pissed as fuck. However, we’ll just take the body and go. Ridley and Cannon grab him and, Tara, don’t you worry, we were never here.” Axl put his finger to his lips.

She watched as the two men grabbed the rug and rolled her ex up in it. In a matter of minutes, Gary and any sign of what had happened was gone, except for the space where the rug had been. “I need a new rug.”

“I’ll buy you one,” Doc offered.

“Do they carry chemicals with them all the time you think?” She was still a little in shock from when she’d witnessed Roq walk in with a bucket and tools. If they’d began hacking up Gary she’d have been done.

“I’d say it’s best to not ask things you really don’t want the answers for.” Doc ran his hand up and down her back as he spoke, the action soothing her.

“Scott is going to have a fit,” she groaned.

He turned her into his body, wrapping his arms around her. “Of course, but now at least we know you won’t have any more problems from Gary.”

She slapped his chest with a little laugh. “I wasn’t supposed to have problems with him before, but I see your point. God I’m tired.”

“Come on, let’s put you to bed and I’ll see myself out.” Doc tried to move back.

Tara tightened her hold. “Stay with me?”

“Your son might try to kill me.” He didn’t sound scared.

“We’ll tell him you saved me first.”

Doc shook his head, but he held her hand as she led him to her bedroom, the one she hadn’t shared with another man since her first marriage. Her daughter had told her to make a wish for Christmas, which she’d laughed about at the time. However, she’d wished for happiness for all of them. Last night, both her babies had given her more happiness than she’d thought she deserved, gifting her with the news of their love and this morning the news of a grandchild to come. When Gary almost took her life, she was ready to accept her fate because she’d tasted joy, but now with her hand engulfed in a man who was making butterflies dance in her stomach, Tara was certain she was being given a second chance. With her eyes closed, she sent a prayer up to her first love, knowing he had to be looking down on her. She’d loved with her whole heart once before, and now it was time to love again.
