straightened. That was magic, and not fae magic. It was stronger than that…it was…heavenly. I felt the power of angels which made no sense unless —
The magic crept through the air like fingers in the fog, searching for its target.
And then I felt it grip my shoulder and I gasped. Gold glitter erupted from where it touched me — but as it fell to the ground it turned blue, then green, then a rainbow. My eyes widened. TEGAN? TENNESSEE!
It was wonky and faded but I felt it either way. It slid down my arm and under Riah. His eyes widened and his jaw dropped. The magic shot up from under his other arm, making the air pulse and then it spread up my other shoulder…and around my back. Once it was wrapped fully around us, the magic sang through my veins and I felt all of The Coven in it.
The magic tugged…and then we were flying through the air.
Chapter Twenty-One
Saffie
“OLLI!” I screamed for my puppy as The Coven’s magic dragged us. “OLLI!”
His little scrunchy face poked out of the cave opening and then his big droopy eyes widened. His ears perked up. He sprinted forward, charging after us with white paws far too big for his own body.
“Come on, O. COME ON!” I cried. I couldn’t lose him again. “Come on, you got it!”
His long light brown ears flapped behind him.
We flew backwards through the air a foot off the ground. The long red strands of my hair slapped me in the face. My wings wrapped around my arms like a blanket. The force of magic wrapping around us pulled harder and my breath left me in a rush. Tears fell from my eyelashes and floated in the air like raindrops. The dark red blood pouring from Riah’s shoulder left a river in our wake.
“Olli!” I cried again. He had to make it. He was so close.
Everything was happening too fast.
Tegan had found me, finally. I felt her magic against my skin. Riah’s life was fading by the second but if Tennessee and Tegan could just get us all back I knew they could save him.
“Just hold on, Riah,” I cried and squeezed his open wound tighter. “They’ll save you! Just hold on for me!”
Riah’s face paled. His eyebrows furrowed. “We’re being…summoned?”
“OLLI!” I screamed and nodded down at my soulmate. “Just hold on for me. Don’t you dare let go!”
Olli barked and I gasped. He was losing speed. His little legs couldn’t keep up. He whimpered.
“NO! OLLI!” Panic surged inside me. “NO. COME ON!”
Riah threw his arm up over his head and bright silver magic shot out of his palm. It sparkled through the air as it wrapped around Olli’s body — and then he was soaring right for me. His ears flapped. I wanted to reach for him but I was afraid to let go of Riah. My magic was the only thing keeping him alive.
Come on, come on, come on.
OLLI!
And then he crashed right into my chest a split second before I felt the sharp tingling sensation of the Seelie tunnel slamming into my back like a million little needles. I hissed.
“OH SHIT—”
I know that voice! I glanced over my shoulder and caught a glimpse of black hair and a red and black checkered shirt —and then we collided at full speed. My breath was knocked from my lungs. I fell forward, crushing Olli between my body and Riah’s. My hands slid through his blood-soaked wound and he hissed. Olli whimpered from between us.
I looked up — and gasped. “SAVANNAH?”
Savannah landed with a thud on her knees in front of us. We were in the Seelie tunnel. She cursed violently and lunged for us with one arm spread wide and the other hand gripping a thick brown rope tied around her waist. Light flashed from the rope as she screamed, “GROUP HUG!”
Riah’s arms coiled around my waist and he pulled me back down until my face hit his bare chest just as Savannah tackled us.
She jumped right on top of me, then screamed, “TEGAN NOW!”
That magic coiled around us tightened until it felt like it was digging into my skin —white light flashed and then we were flying again. Rainbow mist shimmered in my face and the tunnel wall split wide open.
Fresh, cold air slammed into us like a brick wall. I gasped as a lush green forest flew by us. I craned my neck back and spotted a pale, cloudless blue sky above. Riah grunted beneath me.
