they’ve ever been this full before because the child never takes a break from eating.
The house is silent, and for some reason, the other half of my bed is cold. There’s not an amazing man sleeping beside me, arm draped over my side with his warm breath heating my neck. It’s very odd.
The routine is in place where Rocker or Jinx changes the baby and then whichever one is up brings him to me to nurse, but I don’t hear his cries or feel the warmth beside me which means Rocker has been gone for a while.
With a groan and tender touch to my breasts, I climb out of bed, wincing at the pain between my legs that hasn’t completely subsided even though the delivery was two weeks ago.
I know the baby is safe, that’s not what’s bothering me. I grab my phone from the bedside table and head to the nursery, certain I’m going to find Rocker asleep in the glider with River on his chest, and since I’m a sucker for a good photo op, I have the camera app open when I walk into the room.
He’s in the glider, but he’s not asleep. Instead of taking a picture, I switch to video and hit record. I could live a million years and probably not run into this exact same scenario again.
Jinx is sitting on the floor beside the glider, his big hand rubbing the top of River’s head as he coos soft words to his son. Rocker is holding the baby, slowly gliding the chair back and forth in soothing rhythm, but none of that is what makes my jaw hang open.
Strapped to my fiancé’s chest is some kind of feeding contraption that looks like see-through tits. He’s nursing my son. The crazy part of it all is that River is just sucking away like this situation is completely natural for him.
“You need to burp him,” Jinx whispers.
The baby jolts a second in Rocker’s arms at the interrupting voice before settling back into his meal.
“Just a little longer,” Rocker says.
“It’s my turn, man. You promised.”
Jinx sounds like a spoiled child, and I have to clamp my lips between my teeth to keep from laughing.
Having a man that helps around the house after childbirth is amazing. Having two that fight over who’s going to do what instead of arguing about it should happen in every household.
“He likes me better.” Rocker’s lip tilts up in a smirk as he looks down at his friend.
I must move or something because at the same exact moment both of their gazes find mine. Jinx looks irritated as if he’s still upset he isn’t the one nursing River, and a slow smile spreads across Rocker’s face. I turn the camera off and grin at them.
“We thought we’d let you sleep,” my man whispers as Jinx continues to rub the baby’s little head.
“Is that right?” He nods. “My boobs feel like they’re going to pop.”
Instinctively, two pairs of eyes drop to the front of my nightshirt.
“I need to nurse.”
I didn’t think it was possible, but Jinx’s face falls even further. Rocker stands, baby held tightly in his arms and offers me the recliner.
“Really?” Jinx huffs, leaning back on his hands beside the glider as I take a seat. “It was my turn.”
“Dude?” Rocker hisses. “Seriously? She’s in pain.”
Jinx doesn’t look convinced. “Can’t you go milk her or something?”
“Milk her?” I mutter with a shake of my head as I reach for my son.
River, disgruntled at being disengaged, releases a tiny whimper as Rocker holds him to his shoulder and taps softly on his back. He burps as loud as a grown man, knowing that the sooner he gets that part out of the way the quicker he can go back to eating.
“Yeah, or use that damn pump?”
Rocker and I ignore Jinx, just like he ignores the sight of my swollen breast as I draw down my shirt and settle the baby against my chest. Both men watch for a few seconds as River latches on and continues his meal as if he didn’t just go from an artificial breast to the real thing. The kid isn’t picky so long as he’s getting to eat.
“You better not waste that,” I tell Rocker, pointing to the breast milk remaining in his boobs.
“It has guards to prevent backwash, but I don’t think it’s safe to reuse. Bacteria growth and all that,” Jinx mutters, his eyes glued to his nursing son.
His attention doesn’t have a sexual edge to
