he didn’t think. He couldn’t think. At least not rationally. They were in bed. Beds were for sleep and sex.

And he definitely wasn’t feeling the least bit sleepy.

ERICA HAD COUNTED on attracting Adam’s attention, maybe even making him see her in a different light. On that score, her new, more revealing outfit was definitely doing the trick. Whenever she was occupied with something else—doing an interview for the station Web site, signing autographs for people who stopped by with donations, or posing for pictures with fans—she was aware of him watching her.

Of course, as soon as she looked his way, he averted his eyes. And how funny was it that the more skin she revealed, the less he showed? He’d taken to wearing a bathrobe over his T-shirt and pajama pants, claiming he was getting a chill. As if he was fooling anyone. She knew now that he wanted her, and that knowledge was powerful.

Almost as powerful as the outfit’s effect on her. The skimpy, slinky costume made her feel like a sex goddess. Every man who passed by her did a double-take. The thought that she could make them all hot made her feel as if she was on fire.

When everyone left for the day and at last she and Adam were alone, she was sure they’d have a chance to do something about the definite heat between them. Maybe they could cover the security lights, or hide out in the bathroom. Or something…

As soon as the front door to the showroom was locked and the lights dimmed, Adam got out of bed.

“Where are you going?” She leaned toward him, giving him a good view of cleavage. “Come back to bed.”

He shook his head, and sat in one of the chairs that had been pulled up to a low table near the bed. “We need to talk, and I can’t do it in bed with you. Come sit down.”

Reluctantly she moved over to the chair beside him. “What did you want to talk about?” The conversation she wanted to have with him didn’t require words.

He picked up a pen and jiggled it in his hand, then set it back down. “You’re doing a great job,” he said.

“Thanks. I’m having fun.”

“That’s what concerns me a little. What I wanted to discuss with you.”

His words confused her. “You don’t think the job should be fun?”

“It can be fun, but…” For the first time all day, he looked at her directly. “But it’s serious work, too. If you don’t take it seriously, you can make mistakes. Big ones.”

She sat up straighter, not hiding her annoyance. “I take the job seriously.”

“You haven’t acted like it today.”

“Excuse me, but have you checked out what we’re doing here? A bed-in? It’s a crazy stunt that calls for us to act a little crazy. And if you asked Carl, I bet he’d agree.”

“And I’d bet he wouldn’t. Not crazy in the way you’ve been acting. Especially in light of what happened between us last night.”

She took a deep breath. Fine, if he wanted to play it that way. He wasn’t the only one who could speak frankly. “It’s exactly because of what happened last night that I’m doing this,” she said. “I’m trying to seduce you.”

To his credit, he didn’t even blink. “Believe me, I know that. And it’s not that I haven’t been tempted…”

“Then what’s the problem?” She leaned toward him, one hand on his knee. “Is it the cameras? We can cover them, or go someplace else….”

He shook his head, and gently moved her hand away. “We can’t risk it. You know about the blowup I had on air with Bonnie, right?”

She frowned. “Yes. But what does that have to do with you and me…?”

“The station got a big fine over that. And another one when you had your, um, debut.”

She sagged back against the chair. “I get it. You’re saying if anything happens again, it could be really big trouble.”

“Yes, and you’re too new in your career to risk that. And I have too many other black marks against me.”

“What black marks?” The Hawk was the most straight-arrow jock at the station. He never showed up so much as a minute late for work, never complained of a hangover or told the off-color jokes that were Nick’s trademark. If anything, Adam had a reputation as the station intellectual. The thinking man’s DJ. From what Erica could gather, the episode with Bonnie had been totally out of character for him.

“I got in trouble at
