Rescuing Jenna - Anna Blakely Page 0,11

on his boxer briefs and jeans but decided against the shirt.

The pepper spray had dripped all over the front of it—probably ruined the fucking thing—but at least his other clothes had been spared.

At least I’m here, with her.

Shutting his subconscious out, Adrian ran a hand through his wet hair, drew in a breath, and opened the bathroom door.

Jenna had pulled the curtains back and was standing with her arms crossed at her chest, staring out the balcony window. Though he knew she could see him through the window’s reflection, she didn’t bother turning around.

For some reason, he found her willingness to ignore him hot as shit. Probably because he was one sick bastard.

Tell me something I don’t already know, asshole.

“Thought maybe you’d join me,” he teased, keeping his voice low and steady. “Offer to kiss the boo-boo you inflicted.”

“Well, I wouldn’t have had to inflict anything if you hadn’t snuck in here and grabbed me like a damn kidnapper. Oh, wait.” She did turn around then, her kissable mouth curling into a snarky smirk. “You are a kidnapper.”

“Touché.”

God, he loved her sass.

Her eyes slid to his bare chest, their focus landing on the Marines tattoo on his right pec. Adrian watched as her pupils dilated from an arousal, even though she was doing everything to hide it.

“Really?” She rolled those gorgeous eyes of hers. “You couldn’t be bothered to put your shirt back on?”

“It’s covered in pepper spray.”

Jenna looked as if she were about to smart off again. Instead, she bit her bottom lip and looked away. “Oh.”

Shit. He hadn’t meant to make her feel bad. It was his fault for sneaking up on her the way he had. Not that he was about to admit that to her.

“You know.” He laid it on thick. “If it bothers you that much, you could take off your shirt, too. Just so we’re even.”

“Cut the crap, Adrian.” Jenna planted her hands on her hips. “What the hell are you doing here?”

The angry woman was dressed in a pair of purposely ripped jeans that hugged her toned legs just right, and a white, long sleeved t-shirt that both hid and showcased her perky breasts. With her wavy, red hair gathered over one shoulder in a thick braid, she looked even more tempting than he remembered.

Smartass that he was, Adrian licked his lips and smiled. “I get it. First, we talk, and then we…” He slid his eyes to the bed and back to her before waggling his brows.

Jaw dropping—which was the exact reaction he was going for—Jenna fumed as she dropped her arms and stormed toward him. “If you think you can just show up here for another drive-by, you’re out of your damn mind.”

“Drive-by?” he snorted.

Moving her hands back to the narrow hips he remembered so fondly, Jenna glared up at him. “You showed up at my place, somehow managed to finagle your way into my bed, and then poof. You were gone.”

Christ, she’s something.

“One, when it comes to women, I make it a point not to finagle anything. Too messy. Two, you invited me into your bed, and three, there were hours of pleasure between us.” Taking a chance, he slowly began closing the distance between them as he spoke. “As a matter of fact, I recall you enjoying multiple…interactions between my arrival and departure.”

Jenna’s delicate throat worked as she swallowed hard. Almost as if she’d just noticed her reaction to his descriptive words, she narrowed her eyes and jutted her chin. “You vanished as quickly as you came. And yes, jackass. The pun was intended.”

Ouch.

Despite the harsh—and very much not true comment—Adrian’s dick began throbbing behind his zipper. Damn, she really was pissed.

Good thing she had no idea how much that shit turned him on.

“Admit it, sweetheart.” He grinned. “You’re happy to see me.”

“Right.” She pointed to her gorgeous face. “Because this is the face of someone who’s happy.”

“Oh, come on, Jen. I only put my hand over your mouth so you wouldn’t scream.”

Her eyebrows shot up and her voice rose an octave. “I wouldn’t have screamed at all if you’d waited for me in the hallway like a normal person!”

Adrian shrugged. “Normal’s overrated. Don’t you think?”

Jenna opened her mouth and closed it again. She repeated the move, looking like a fish out of water while she tried to decide what to throw back at him next. As usual, the woman surprised him.

“How are your eyes?”

“I’ll live.” He tipped his head. “Thanks again for letting me use the shower.”
