Rage (Her Monsters Book One) - K.A Knight Page 0,127

through my body, making me shiver as his wings shoot out of him on either side, blocking the sky and creating a cocoon.

“Oh, you will pay for that,” he threatens, his voice deadly.

“I was betting on it.” I wink.

When I get back to Griffin’s house they aren’t home. Glaring at everything, I stomp around the house, trying to control my rage. I could head to the dock but by the late hour, I am betting they aren’t there anymore. I just need to be patient, which with my mate’s life on the line, I am finding I am not very good at.

Blowing out a breath, I force myself to sit crossed-legged and tap into the nature around me. Letting the call of the birds and the breeze soothe me. Once I had made it from fae territory, I had sprinted back to my bike and forced the change, before shooting from my cave and speeding across the forest and city to make it back here.

Cracking open my eyes, calmer than before, I search the living room for something else to distract myself with. My eyes catch on a burst of colour on the fallen’s photo wall. Rising to my feet, I stalk across the room and stop before it, and a smirk curves my lips.

There, in the middle of the black and white photograph wall, is a full colour photograph of Dawn.

She’s staring into the camera with her hair like a halo around her. Not a lick of makeup mars her face, just that fucking cheeky smile that drives me crazy. Her eyes are filled with laughter and a dare. She looks like innocence and sin wrapped up in one, beautiful package.

Griffin might see the rest of the world in shades of grey, but it’s obvious he sees Dawn in all her splendid coloured glory. To him, the rest of the world is bland and she is his colour. Maybe he is trying to stop fighting the mate bond.

Or maybe he has finally realised trying to fight her is pointless, she will just come back stronger each time.

The door opens behind me. I was so lost in my own thoughts that I didn’t even hear them pull up. Dropping my fingers away from the photograph, I turn, ready to admonish them, until I see the blood covering my mate.

Growling, my eyes turn white and I change quickly, unable to help myself. Griffin raises his eyebrow and steps to the side, and Dawn just grins.

Striding across the room, I run my finger over the blood on her head and bring it between us. “This better be someone else’s,” I warn.

She grabs my hand, smiling at me. “It’s mine,” she says sweetly.

Roaring, I pull away from her and turn to the fallen, he goes on high alert in an instant, his hands hovering over the blades strapped across his sides. I grab him and pin him to the wall.

“Griffin, no!” she yells, and I look down at the blade he plunged into my stomach. Sparing it no more than a glance, I get into his face but he stops fighting. He stares at me, frozen.

“I warned you,” I growl and he nods. Anger is rioting in his eyes, but when they flicker to Dawn he sighs, not even trying to fight me.

“You did,” he agrees, leaning back on the wall.

“Nos,” Dawn yells, and I look over to see her arms crossed as she glares at both of us. “Put him the fuck down, or I swear to god, I will never touch your cock again,” she threatens.

With my eyes on her, I smash Griffin into the wall and let go before stepping into her space. “Is that right?” I say silkily, and I watch as her eyes fill with heat, warring with her anger, and she swallows hard. I can even see the pounding of her pulse in her throat, but I’m impressed when she steps right up to me and points a finger in my face.

“This blood is mine, and not from the meeting, we both know I like to get rough. So if you’re going to get angry at someone, let it be me, but you will never attack him again.” She steps back when I frown, looking her over. She glares at both of us, her gaze swinging between us. “You are both my mates, you do not have to like each other, but you will never attack each other again. If you do, I’ll be gone quicker than
