not here to challenge him,” he said pointing out facts.

“Yes, well that was before I discovered he knew all these years WHO KILLED MY CHILD!” I roared, with my demon erupting for even a split second as this was directed at Lucifer, someone who looked completely unfazed.

“Yes, and I think we both know that the best way to get revenge on the one responsible, is to discover what his next play is going to be and what he intends to do with the Eye of Janus,” Dariush said calmly, but it was at this point Lucifer sat up straighter and took greater interest.

“So, he has in his possession the Eye of Crimson?”

“Yes, and I believe his plan is to use the Eye to transfer not only the souls into his possession, but also now the power that was taken from him in Tartarus… something I am thankful to say, he cannot do without my blood,” I stated after getting myself back under control and shrugging off my brother’s hold. Lucifer regarded me for a moment before adding even more fucking shit to the Matthias pile!

“No? Then ask yourself, if that is the case then why is he so intent on getting your Chosen One?” Lucifer’s question suddenly had my veins filling with ice, but then I took a deep breath and told him,

“It matters not, for I have sent her back to the mortal realm where her father can protect her.”

“Wise choice indeed,” Lucifer replied with a smirk.

“Great, now that’s all sorted, can we please just get on with finding this fucker, so we can cut his head off already?” Dariush growled.

“Matthias cannot leave Hell for long periods of time, but seeing as my hunt for him has been unsuccessful all these years, it leaves only one place left,” Lucifer replied with a frustrated sigh, obviously pissed that he hadn’t yet been able to get his hands on him.

“And where in Hell would that be?” my brother asked after slapping his hands to his knees when retaking his seat.

“Somewhere caught between the mortal world and Hell, and there is only one place I can think of…” Before he even had time to say it, I was roaring a curse, load enough this time that stalagmites cracked and fell from the ceiling, crashing to the floor.

“FUCK!”

Then this time my veins didn’t just turn to ice, my heart actually felt like it had frozen, before then shattering into a million fucking pieces!

Because it was like Lucifer had said, there was only one place like that he could hide. A place forbidden to both mortals and Demons.

And unfortunately for me, it was also the one place that I had just sent my fucking Chosen One to…

“The Tree of Souls!”

Betrayal

Amelia

“Forgive me, Gods forgive me.”

That had been the last thing I heard before Lucius had literally pushed me from his life, making me scream out in both heartbreak and anger,

“NO!” I shrugged out of the hold of whichever lackey Lucius had ordered to aid him in his deception. Then I hit my hand out against the cave wall where there had been a portal a heart-breaking second ago.

“DAMN YOU! DAMN YOU! Damn you, Lucius… damn you!” I cried at the end, letting my words trail off with the depth of my hurt. One that seemed to carve deeper into the very core of me. Then his other words started to seep through from memory, and I winced again in pain.

‘Please remember how much I love you. Never forget, Amelia, never forget how much, promise me.’

“Hhhow… how could you… how could you do this to me?” I asked the stone wall when Clay approached me from behind.

“Amelia.”

“Don’t… just don’t!” I snapped after pushing away from the wall, only now seeing where it was that we were.

The fucking Tree of Souls!

The cause of all this fucked up mess!

I looked up at the colossal tree and grimaced as two leaves fell and turned to ash before they hit the floor. Two more souls lost, and yet that single flower was still there… surviving. The single rose that represented the part of me Lucius had stolen all that time ago. Well, now it just felt like another betrayal, only this time one he had been in control of.

But then wasn’t this our pattern?

A pattern that I myself had started that very day when I had been the first to walk away. Gods, but why did it have to be this way? This push and pull, this give and take
