went blank.

“Morning. What’s got you here so early?” Seren raised an eyebrow at me in suspicion.

“I wanted to talk with you about an idea I had.” I bit the inside of my lip, trying not to betray how nervous I was to Seren.

“Oh?” He set his satchel down on the table next to me and began pulling out his stuff. The laptop was first, the brushed space gray rectangle sliding smoothly from the bag, followed by a spiral bound notebook that had folded corners, probably from being shoved in the bag at weird angles, and lastly was his thermos of coffee. Every time he moved, I got a waft of his scent and was willing to bet money that his deodorant was called ‘mountain air’ or ‘mountain lake’ or something equally dumb that pandered to most guys’ need to smell like the wilderness and stuff. It may have been dumb, but it also made me horny as hell for some stupid reason, or at least it did when it came to Seren and Rory.

Now was so not the appropriate time for dirty thoughts though, especially not ones like how I wanted Seren to bend me over his desk, so I swallowed hard and pushed them away. When I looked up at Seren again, I hoped that my cheeks weren’t flaming red, given the direction of my thoughts. What I saw surprised me. His pupils were dilated, so much so that the blue was a mere ring around the edge.

I cleared my throat a little and said, “I think we could do something fun to get the Gazette’s numbers up. It might be a lot of work, but I think if we work it right, we could get the piece to be multifunctional.” I paused and took a deep breath. “I think we should interview everyone in town. The pieces will be out in a random order, so people would have to subscribe to get the newspaper regularly so they could see their own story in print. What do you think?”

“You want us to interview every single person in Silver Springs?” he asked, sounding like he couldn’t decide whether I was an idiot or a genius. The dilated pupils were gone, and in their place were those stormy blues that captivated me so much when I first saw them.

“Yes, supe and human, doesn’t matter. If they are a Silver Springs resident, then I want to interview them, or rather, you or Samson to interview them.”

“Do you have any idea how long something like that would take to set up and complete?” he asked as he ran a hand through his hair, the blonde locks leaving their carefully combed placement and sticking out every which way, before pulling his glasses off and cleaning them on his shirt.

“I know it would be a lot, but people love talking about themselves. This could be a good way to gain favor with the community.”

“True…” He still sounded like he needed convincing, so I decided to pull out the big guns.

“I did some research last night—”

“Is that what the kids are calling it these days?” Seren snarked.

I had showered, put perfume on, done my hair and makeup. He had exactly zero ways to know that I’d spent the night with someone. It wasn’t any of his business anyway, so I shot him a glare before continuing, “I did some research last night, and the data suggests that there are more supernatural beings living in Silver Springs than there are humans, and that divide is only increasing. You know there’s a reason that no purely supernatural towns exist. If the humans keep leaving Silver Springs, then you guys are going to be left with a target on your town for all the crazies. There are already plenty of articles out there talking about how weird Silver Springs is. Believe me, I think I read most of them last night. If you want to stay under the radar, then you need to bring more humans in to dilute the magic. I think if we get some good interviews, we could twist some magic into them and use them to help draw humans to Silver Springs. I mean, we can do it with the ads as well, but I thought the interviews stood a better chance of having the right effect.”

“The interviews are a good idea. People do like talking about themselves, you’re right there, and we could use it to leverage more subscriptions to the paper. But using
