Mason Wolfe (Wolfe Brothers #3) - Sandi Lynn Page 0,4

bro. I saw it the minute you came back in the room. What happened?”

“Dr. Sara Davis is what happened. I asked her out for a drink, and she flat out refused.”

“Damn.” Nathan laughed as he patted me on the back. “Little brother getting rejected by the hot doctor. Ouch. That had to sting.”

“Maybe she’s married,” Elijah chimed in as he ordered us three coffees.

“She’s not wearing a ring. I checked.”

“Maybe she’s a lesbian.” Nathan smiled.

“She said she doesn’t want to have drinks with me ever and not every woman is going to be interested in me. Do you fucking believe the nerve of her?”

Elijah laughed, and Nathan cocked his head at me.

“Bro, she sounds like Allison when we first met. I can already tell she’s a feisty one. Gotta love those feisty girls.” He winked.

“Forget about her. Listen, you and Mom went to dinner last night. Was she feeling okay?” I asked Nathan.

“As far as I know. But come to think of it, she barely touched her dinner. She only took a couple bites. When I asked her why she wasn’t eating, she said she had a big lunch and wasn’t very hungry. But she had an appetite for the manhattans she was kicking back.”

“Um, she didn’t eat lunch yesterday,” Elijah spoke. “I asked her to join me and Aspen and she said she wasn’t hungry and didn’t want to spoil her appetite for dinner with you.” He glanced over at Nathan.

“So she’s lying,” I said.

“I think we better get in there and find out what’s going on with her,” Nathan spoke as the three of us headed back to her room.

When we stepped inside, Dr. Davis had just walked in. Damn, what I wouldn’t give to hit that just once.

“Your blood sugar is low, Ms. Wolfe. When was the last time you drank alcohol?”

“That would be last night. She had quite a few Manhattans at dinner,” Nathan said.

“Thank you, son. I appreciate your honesty.” My mother narrowed her eye at him.

“Did you eat anything at all yesterday?” Dr. Davis asked. “Ms. Wolfe, I need you to be one hundred percent honest with me. Because if you’re not, I will have no choice but to keep you here for a couple of days and do an extensive work up on you. You seem like you’re a very busy woman and I’m sure you really don’t have the time for that. So, just come clean.”

Damn. She was good.

“Fine. I haven’t been eating well at all the past couple of weeks, and maybe I have been drinking a little too much alcohol at night.”

“Do you want me to ask your boys to step out of the room so we can talk in private?” Dr. Davis asked.

“No. They’ll find out, eventually. I ended my relationship with someone I’d been seeing for a long time, and I’ve been under a great deal of stress.”

“Are you serious?” I asked.

“You broke up with Tommy?” Elijah asked.

“Damn, Mom. Why?” Nathan chimed in.

“It’s a long story and one I do not want to get into right now. We’ll discuss it later.”

“Thanks for being honest with me.” Sara smiled as she placed her hand on my mother’s. “I’m going to order you some lunch. You will eat it all and finish out that IV. So plan on staying here at least a few more hours.”

“Fine.” My mother rolled her eyes.

“I’ll be back to check on you later before you’re discharged. It was nice to meet you boys.” She nodded to the three of us.

I rolled my eyes and turned away as I stood there with my hands tucked deep inside my pockets.

“Mason, what’s wrong?” my mother asked.

“Nothing, Mom.”

“Don’t lie to me. I know that look.”

“He’s butt hurt because Dr. Davis turned him down.” Nathan smirked.

“Shut the fuck up, douchebag.” I smacked him upside the head.

“Ouch. Fuck you, bro.”

“That’s enough, you two. She’s a beautiful woman. She really turned you down, darling?”

“Yeah, Mom. Let’s just drop it. I don’t care. I found her attractive, asked her to join me for a drink, she said no, and now we’ll move on.”

“Hey, Mom. You’re staying at my house tonight,” Nathan spoke, and I shot him a look of disbelief.

“She can stay with me and Aspen,” Elijah said.

“No. No. Ruby would love it if you spent the night with us.”

“Boys, I know you’re concerned, but I’m not staying with any of you. I’ll be fine.”

“Sorry, Mom, we need to make sure you’re okay. You’re staying at my house tonight. Just one night. Please,
