a smile as I walked out of the room.
I set my iPad down at the nurses’ station and began typing my notes.
“So, I’ve never seen you here before.”
With a slight turn of my head, my eyes fixated on Mason who was leaning up against the nurses’ station. He had a look in his eyes. A look I knew all too well.
“Is that the best pickup line you can come up with?” I asked as I continued typing my notes.
“It’s not a pickup line. It’s a fact because I’m in here a lot. I’m Captain Mason Wolfe of the New York Fire Department, Station 53.”
“You’re a firefighter?” I cocked my head.
“I am. If you don’t believe me, just ask Corinne.” He gestured with his hand.
I raised my brow at Corinne, who sat there like a lost puppy begging to be taken home.
“Yes.” She snapped back to reality. “He’s a firefighter. Captain firefighter.” She swooned as she bit down on her bottom lip.
“See. It wasn’t a pickup line.” The corners of his mouth curved upward.
“I’m new here, hence the reason you haven’t seen me before. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have work to do.” I picked up my iPad and began to walk away.
“I’d like to buy you a drink sometime,” he said as he followed behind me. “Preferably tonight. I can promise you’ll have the best time of your life.”
I stopped dead in my tracks with my iPad held tightly against my chest.
“I have plans tonight,” I spoke as I turned around. “And before you say tomorrow night or the next night or even next week, I’m afraid I’m busy.”
I walked away, but he still was following me. I could hear the “I won’t take no for an answer” in his footsteps.
“Really? So basically what you’re saying is you don’t want to have drinks with me, ever. Am I right?”
“You are correct, Mr. Wolfe. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have other patients to see.”
“Any woman in this hospital would die if I asked them to go out. You have no idea what you’re missing, sweetheart,” he voiced rather loudly down the hallway.
“Not every woman will be interested in you, Mr. Wolfe!”
I lightly smiled as I shook my head. He was possibly the sexiest man my eyes had ever seen with his six-foot two-inch stature and broad shoulders and biceps that hugged his tight-fitting shirt. His hair was brown and perfectly styled. Short on the sides and longer on top, much like his brothers. A light mustache and five o’clock shadow traced the outline of his masculine jaw. Then there were his eyes. A rich mixture of brown with specs of gold and green throughout. Dreamy and mesmerizing. He was almost perfect. ‘Almost’ being the keyword. I knew guys like him. All he wanted was sex. There was nothing wrong with that because more times than not, that’s all I wanted. I had needs just like every other horny person out in the world, but I didn’t like his arrogance, or the fact that he thought every woman he looked at would have sex with him. I moved here for a reason, and one of those reasons wasn’t to have sex with some random guy who was the son of one of my patients.
Chapter 4
Mason
I walked back into the room with my hands tightly tucked in my pants pockets. I’d admit, she was an incredibly sexy woman. The moment I saw her, I was speechless, which had never happened to me before. She stood about five foot six with long brown hair that was secured in a low ponytail. Her almond-shaped eyes were green with bursts of gold that radiated through them, giving way to her high cheekbones and plump lips that created the perfect face. She was a goddess if I’d ever seen one, and she just flat out rejected me. Needless to say, I was angry about the situation and my brothers knew it the moment I walked through the door.
“What’s wrong?” Elijah asked.
“Nothing.”
“Where were you?” Nathan raised his brow at me.
“At the nurses’ station. Why?”
“I’m going to grab a cup of coffee. If you two want a cup, then come with me,” Elijah spoke.
“Sounds good. We’ll be right back, Mom,” I said as I placed my hand on hers.
“Go ahead. I’m just going to rest my eyes for a bit.”
The three of us walked out of the room and headed to the coffee bar in the lobby.
“What’s going on?” Elijah asked. “I can tell you’re pissed off.”
“Yeah,
