Lucky Strike (Super Harem #1) - Catherine Banks Page 0,55
today.”
“Is—”
“Alura is safe,” Gargoyle cut me off. “I ensured she stayed safe.”
I exhaled and leaned back in my chair with closed eyes. Good. I wasn’t sure what I would do if I lost Alura.
“Are we done?” Crystal Woman asked. “I need a shower and drinks.”
“Yes, you may leave,” the Director said and waved her hand. She pulled out her tablet and typed on it furiously with a scowl.
We left the room quickly and quietly.
“My room?” I whispered.
Everyone nodded, and we climbed into the elevator together, squished inside to get all of us in.
The elevator stopped on my floor, and we hurried into the room.
As soon as my door closed, everyone started talking at once.
I held up my hands. “Whoa. One at a time.”
“He really died?” Gargoyle asked.
I nodded and swallowed hard. Shouldn’t I feel bad that my ex had died? But I didn’t. I only felt the tiniest bit of sadness, but otherwise I didn’t really care. Did that make me a monster?
“I don’t buy her story about those men,” Crystal Woman said and folded her arms across her chest.
I nodded. “Same.”
“It’s just too convenient,” she added.
“They really tried to kill you?” Hurricane asked.
“Yep. They had weird guns and...” I stopped talking and then looked up behind me. “Alfred, do you know what those guns were?”
“Negative.”
“Do you think you could reconstruct what they looked like and send it to T?” I asked him.
“You ordered me to stay back, so I didn’t observe them from close up, but I can send him what I saw, and you can provide more information,” he said.
I nodded. “Do it, please.”
“Your droid is seriously abnormal,” Crystal Woman whispered.
“Seriously,” Tremor said. “Who has a droid that talks to them like a human? Is that even AI anymore or is there a person attached to that? Where did you even get that thing? The only place I’ve heard of with tech that advanced is Tanary Industries and they’re impossible to get droids from.”
“That is where I got him from,” I answered with a smirk.
His mouth dropped open. “You got a droid from Tanary Industries? How? Are you sleeping with the owner or something?”
“Not sleeping with him, but I am dating him,” I said.
His face turned bright red, and he opened and closed his mouth like a fish out of water.
Crystal Woman laughed so loud and long that she had to clutch her stomach. “Oh, man. Your face is priceless, Tremor.”
“Alright, shower and then meet at the pub in fifteen?” I asked.
“Deal,” she said and nodded, then looked at the three men around me. “You sure you don’t need longer?” she smirked at me.
I glared at her. “Yes, I’m sure.”
“Give us twenty,” Galactic Gargoyle said. “She needs to call her other boyfriend to let him know she’s safe.”
“Oh, right,” I whispered and felt ashamed for having forgotten I needed to call him. Alfred had no doubt sent him a report, but I did need to call him.
“Alright, see you in twenty,” she said and waved, then grabbed Tremor’s arm and pulled him out of the room. “Come on, fool. They need privacy.”
Once they were gone, two sets of angry eyes focused on me.
Vortex headed to the bathroom to use my shower, and I glared at the jerk for leaving me alone with them.
“You died?” Galactic Gargoyle asked.
I chewed on my lower lip as I nodded. “Yeah, but it was just for a second.”
“Four point seven seconds,” Alfred said.
Hurricane held out his cell phone. “Call him.”
I took his offered phone and dialed Tyson’s number. He answered on the first ring. “Hi,” I whispered.
“What happened?”
“Didn’t Alfred send you a report?” I asked and glanced at the droid who was sitting on his charging base in the corner of my room.
“No.”
“Oh, well, I sort of...died, but he used his shockers to bring me back.”
“Defibrillators,” Tyson corrected. He blew out a breath. “What happened?”
I told him everything that had happened and didn’t leave anything out.
He listened silently until I was done and then let out a string of curses that would have impressed a sailor.
“I think you’re upset,” I whispered.
He sighed loudly. “Someone tried to kill you. Of course I’m upset.”
“Well, they failed,” I said and shrugged.
“No, they succeeded, but Alfred brought you back,” Hurricane said with folded arms over his chest.
I admired the way his biceps looked and tried to keep my drool inside of my mouth. “Right.”
“Tomorrow. You’re still coming, right?” Tyson asked.
“Yes,” I answered. And I would have a lot of questions for my mother.
“Try not to die between
