Lucky Strike (Super Harem #1) - Catherine Banks Page 0,32

if you want to continue this or if you want to end things. I don’t know how they got those pictures or who is behind it. I plan to find out, though. As for Transistor, I’ll just tell you he isn’t evil. Yes, he works against the Association, but there are reasons.”

“Reasons?” Hurricane asked with an arched brow.

I nodded.

“What is your endgame? When do you plan to choose? Are you stringing us all along for fun? Do you have some plan?” Vortex asked.

“Endgame? Choose? I don’t...” My brows furrowed. “You all agreed to me dating multiple men. I was completely up front about that.”

“Because you didn’t want to jump into another relationship,” Vortex said.

“Yes, but why would things need to change?” I asked softly, feeling like I was being berated.

“So, you intend to continue dating us all?” Hurricane asked, scowling. “Including the villain?”

Why did he make it sound like a bad thing? He and Vortex were all about sharing, weren’t they?

“Yes,” I whispered. “That was my plan.”

Hurricane stood and shook his head. “I’m a hero. My job is to fight villains, not share my girl with them.”

I swallowed back the wave of sorrow that threatened to release tears. “I know it’s difficult to accept, but he isn’t a bad guy. He’s more of a gray than black or white.”

“And you’re dating that rich guy, too?” Vortex asked.

I nodded.

“So, there are five of us?” Hurricane asked.

Since I couldn’t out Tyson’s secret, I nodded.

Hurricane shook his head. “Does he know about Transistor?”

I nodded.

“I can’t,” Hurricane said with a shake of his head. “Not a villain. I’m sorry. I have to draw my line somewhere. And even if Transistor isn’t terrible, you don’t know where his true allegiances lie. He could sell you out to another villain. Or sell us out.”

“He wouldn’t.” I said certainly.

Hurricane stood before me and whispered, “I really wanted this to work. I like you a lot, Lucy, but I can’t. I’m sorry.” He opened the door and looked at Vortex expectantly.

Vortex kissed my cheek and left without a word.

I fell onto my bed and the tears streamed down my face.

“Lucy?” Tyson said through the earpiece.

“Yeah?” I asked, sniffling.

He paused. “Are you crying?”

“What’s up?” I asked instead of answering.

“I tracked the creature to an abandoned railyard. I’m going to investigate. Do you want to join me?”

“Now?” I asked. I was exhausted and wanted to get a bucket of ice cream to drown my broken heart in.

“I’m prepping some robots first. I’ll be ready in about three hours.” He paused. “Are you okay?”

“I’ll shower and meet you at—”

“Bring Galactic Gargoyle with you. He’ll want to join us I’m sure. Do you want to ask your other—”

“They’re no longer part of this.” I said quickly. “I’ll bring Gargoyle and we’ll meet you at Trombone Lane in three hours.”

“Okay,” he said.

I could tell he wanted to say more, but I took out the earpiece and exhaled.

“No rest for heroes,” I muttered.

After texting an invitation to join us on our hunt to Austin, I hopped in the shower.

My body was covered in an array of crap. I was scrubbing my hair for the third time and crying when Austin knocked on the bathroom door.

“Almost done,” I choked out.

The door opened, and I turned with wide eyes, covering my chest with my arms.

He stepped inside the shower and set his hand on my cheek. “Why are you crying? Do I need to get a doctor?”

I shook my head. “Your clothes are getting soaked.”

“What happened?”

“Hurricane and Vortex ended our relationship,” I said and put a hand over my mouth to stifle my sob.

Austin sighed and shook his head. “Idiots. I’m sorry, Lucy.” He hugged me.

“Austin, I’m naked in the shower. You’re completely soaked now. What are you thinking?”

Being pressed against his warm body while he consoled me, had me thinking in ways I shouldn’t.

He tilted my face up and kissed me. “I’m not going to die from being wet. You needed a hug and as one of your boyfriends, that’s my job.”

Hearing him say that word made my heart skip a beat.

I pulled him back down for another kiss and slid my hands up under his shirt to touch his skin.

His hands slid down my back, and he moaned into my mouth at the same time he pressed his erection against my stomach.

I pulled back and asked, “Are you sure?”

He arched a brow. “Isn’t that my line?”

I tugged at his shirt. “I’m sure.”

I didn’t get the nap I’d planned on, but I still had a
