no way of tying the crime back to him. And no rational person would believe he’d turned into a wolf and eaten me. God, I was so stupid!
The wolf focused its nearly glowing eyes on mine and while I searched them for some semblance of humanity, I could find none. The good news, though, was that the thing had stopped growling. Probably because it was too busy thinking about ripping out my throat.
“Alex,” I started again, but the words were taken right from my lips as I watched the wolf begin to... change. Its snout receded back into its face at the same time that its eyes began to shrink, taking on a more human shape. I blinked, and kept on blinking, as I watched its thick fur dissolve into tanned skin. Its giant ears shrunk... and looked for all the world as if they were folding into themselves, only to appear to be completely human again. I glanced down at the wolf’s body and watched its claws rescind into fingers as the fur covering its body completely disappeared, replaced with human skin. I blinked again and found Alex on top of me, no longer in his wolf form but... completely naked.
“Oh, my God!” I exclaimed as I shook my head and tried to make sense of the fact that I’d just watched a wolf turn into a man and now that man was straddling me and was completely devoid of clothing. “Oh my God, oh my God,” I continued as I tried to convince myself not to look... down. But I did anyway. And once I saw what he had between his legs, I could only gulp.
“Thank you,” he said in a winded voice as he smiled at me.
“Get off me!” I yelled at him as I brought my hands to his chest and attempted to push him away. But it was like trying to push a brick wall. A hot brick wall. Temperature-wise.
“You’ll have to forgive me, but I’m not going to be able to move for at least a few seconds,” he apologized as he offered me a semi-shrug that said he was completely unconcerned over the fact that he was as naked as the day he was born. And he was on top of me. “What you just saw takes a lot of energy, as I’m sure you can imagine.”
“What I just saw,” I repeated but couldn’t find the rest of the words.
“Yes?”
“What did I just see?”
“You saw what I told you you’d see,” he finished, as if his turning into a wolf was no big deal.
“And on that subject, why the hell were you growling at me?” I demanded as I started to sit up, but the weight of his body pinned me right back down. “And, by the way, I nearly shot you!”
“I knew you weren’t going to shoot me.”
“You could understand me? You were aware of my thoughts?” I asked in an accusatory voice.
“Aware enough,” he responded as I tried to force my eyes to stay on his. Something inside me, though, was begging me to glance down the line of his body again. It was just… it had been… impressive.
“You can take another peek. I won’t get mad,” he said with a huge grin that made me want to kick him right in the...
“If you are strong enough to make smart-ass jokes, then you can get the hell off me.”
He grumbled something but then rolled off me so that he was now adjacent to me and on his back, which meant his… thing… was now even more prominent than it had been before. And, good Lord, but it was huge!
“Will you cover yourself up?” I insisted as I forced my attention away from him.
“Just what would you like me to cover myself with, Chief?”
“Where the hell are your clothes?” I insisted as I stood and glanced around myself, looking for said clothing but finding nothing.
“Shredded, obviously,” he answered as he clasped his hands behind his head and regarded me with a large smile. He looked like he should have been basking in the sun’s rays on a nude beach somewhere, rather than on a snowbank. “If I’m dressed when I take the shape of the wolf, my clothes get destroyed.”
“That’s great.” I shook my head as I wondered if my jacket would fit him.
“And, no, your jacket won’t fit me.”
“Well, it will fit your... sausage!” I yelled at him as I took off my jacket and flung it at him.
“My sausage?” he
