Kansas (Ruthless Kings MC Atlantic City #2) - K.L. Savage Page 0,81

fucking sucks as a human being, but I have three siblings I could get to know. Family.

Hell, Violet just found out she has an Irish mobster as her godfather, and for the most part, she took it in stride. It could have been because she is high, but I guess we will know for sure tomorrow.

“Hey, how is she?” Pulse asks, peeking his head through the crack of the door.

“Can you stay with her for a bit? I need to…” I stand up, not wanting to let go of her hand, but knowing I have to, “…I need to go see my Pops.”

Pulse whistles low as he steps into the room. “You’re going to get tested for him?”

“I don’t know about that yet, but he is in this hospital. If Violet can accept O’Crowely, then maybe, somehow—” I blow out some air and shake my head while scratching the side of my neck “—Maybe somehow I can get to know my brothers and sister. I don’t know what I’m doing.”

“Hey, doing something is better than doing nothing. I’m proud of you. Of course, I’ll stay with her. Don’t worry about it.”

“I don’t trust that Irish fuck. If you leave her, he could come in here and take her. I can’t have that. I’m trusting you,” I tell him.

“Brother, you don’t have a thing to worry about. I’m going to read while I’ll wait for you to come back.”

“Thank you.” I give her a quick peck on the lips. She stirs slightly, whimpers in pain, and her brows dip. I look up at the monitor, but she’s okay.

“I’ll give her some pain meds. It’s about that time anyway. Go on, she’ll be fine. Go while you have the nerve.”

“I said I wouldn’t leave her.”

“You aren’t leaving her alone, and you will be back. I doubt she will wake up. I’m going to really knock her out. She’ll be thankful.”

I whisper in her ear, “I’ll be right back, Spring. I love you. I’m going to go see my Pops. He is here too.” I kiss her on the cheek and straighten to my full height. “Do you know where I’d find someone who needs a bone marrow transplant?”

“Cancer ward, probably. I don’t know where it is here, sorry. Someone will show you the way. Good luck.”

I give him a stressed smile, but don’t even show my teeth. When I walk out the door and close it behind me, I look left and right down the hall.

Fuck, which way did I even come from when we first got into her room? A doctor in a white coat scribbling something on a chart is power walking by, not looking at where he is going.

I pretend to be in his way, and he bumps into me. His chart clatters to the floor, and his pen rolls under a machine that’s against the wall.

“I am so sorry! Are you okay?” he asks.

I bend down and pick up his chart, but I can’t reach the pen. “Yes, thank you. It’s okay. Don’t worry about it.”

“It isn’t the first time I’ve run into someone. I really need to watch out where I’m going. Someone could get hurt.”

“Good thing we are in a hospital, right?” I try to make a joke of it, but he doesn’t laugh.

Tough crowd. Okay.

“So, I was wondering. Where would I find oncology?”

“You’re going to want to go to the third floor. Front desk will help you from there.”

“Thanks so much. Take care,” I tell him and step to the right to make my way down the hall. I peek into Veronica and Victoria’s room. They are sleeping and O’Crowely glares at me from the small, uncomfortable loveseat in Veronica’s room.

I don’t say a word to him, but he hasn’t hurt them yet, so that’s something. Shutting the door, I aimlessly walk toward the silver elevators. It’s apparent that I have no idea where I’m going, but as long as I get to the third floor, I don’t care how clueless I look.

There are a few nurses around me, gossiping at the nurse’s station about a patient who likes to grab their ass when they walk away.

If they are complaining about patients, I can’t imagine what they would say about bikers. I press the button and it dings, sliding the metal slabs open instantly. I step inside and the scent of bleach wafts heavily in my face, making my head spin.

Only one reason for bleach and that’s to erase all signs of blood.

I hit 3
