of crows is called.” A silent threat hangs in the air.

“Don’t act like you are doing this out of selflessness. Yes, your goddaughters are here, but you want something in return for your drugs not being delivered on time. That’s selfish. If you really cared, wouldn’t you just leave and not get us into business together?” Boomer asks.

It’s like a soap opera. I dart my eyes to the Irishman, sipping my water while Amos is petting the top of my head. It feels good.

I love him.

He’s so handsome.

I chuckle around the straw for no reason.

“Oh, someone is feeling good,” Amos whispers into my ear.

“Make me feel even better,” I slur, tapping the tip of his nose. “You know you wanna.”

“When you’re healed, there’s nothing that will keep me out of your tight cunt.” He keeps his voice low so no one can hear us.

My heart rate monitor kicks up when I think about us in this bed. “I don’t feel anything now. I’m all drugged up. Let’s do it.” I grab his shirt and tug him close, and he grunts, almost falling out of the seat.

“Springs, you’re injured. No way, plus, you’re high.”

A few guys chuckle behind him, and I lift a shoulder. “Feels good too.”

“What am I going to do with you?” he says happily, pressing a kiss to my lips.

“Love me,” my eyes begin to drift shut again.

“You’ll never have to worry about a day where I don’t do that.”

Sweet talker.

“I am a businessman, Boomer. Money rules my world, and only now will I care for someone other than myself,” Lorcan states. “I see opportunity everywhere, and this is an opportunity I will refuse to not take. Now, if ye will excuse me, I have two other goddaughters to see.” Lorcan is next to my bed and bends down to kiss me on the forehead. Amos rumbles in displeasure, but I kind of like that I have someone else who is an extension of Mom and Dad. I might not know him, but my family did, and that brings me comfort.

Even if he sells drugs, kills people, and whatever else.

“I hope ye don’t mind who I am and what I do,” he says to me, brushing my hair back. “I really only stayed away because it was yer father’s wish.”

I live with men who have killed. “Bitches gotta pay rent, right?” I say sounding drunk and shrugging my shoulders uncaring.

Everyone stares at me slack-jawed until Boomer starts to laugh. It’s a domino effect. O’Crowely and Amos cackle while the guys wipe under their eyes from laughing so hard.

What did I say? I don’t know.

“Silly girl. I own. Renting is for poor people,” he scoffs as he begins to leave, spine straight as he walks with impeccable posture for a man. “I’ll be in touch, Boomer.”

“I don’t doubt it,” Boomer grumbles, a bit disgruntled.

As soon as he leaves the room, a surge or wave of heavy power exits with him.

Arrow pipes up. “What’s wrong with renting? I like renting. If it breaks, landlord fixes it, and it ain’t my problem.”

“Same,” Teeth agrees.

“I want a juice box,” Arrow announces. “I’m going to the cafeteria.”

“Alright everyone, let’s head out and give Violet some rest. We have broken enough rules today.”

“Amos, don’t go,” I reach for his hand and press it against the cheek that doesn’t hurt.

Or maybe it does.

I can’t feel a damn thing.

“Never, Springs.”

“Good.” I close my eyes and try to get comfortable again. I forget who is with me and mutter, “I want Kansas.”

“I’m here, Springs.”

“Everything is in Kansas.”

I replay her words in my head about a million times as I watch her sleep. It’s just been over a few hours since she admitted everything was in Kansas.

My heart swelled with joy, and then I began to overthink the actual meaning of it. What if everything is in Kansas? What if Kansas means my family? What if I need to talk to my Pops for the first time in over fifteen years? What if I need to embrace the three siblings I’ve always wanted nothing to do with, because I’ve been so fucking angry at them for taking my Pops away from me?

‘Everything is in Kansas’ is starting to have more meaning than she meant to imply. Fuck. I’m going to have to see him. I don’t want to, but in order for me to fully move on with my life, to fully move on with Violet, I need to come to terms with what my past is.

My dad
