I Regret Nothing - JB Trepagnier Page 0,18

showers.

I was glad I watched my back in the showers. I wasn’t worried about the fact that there were naked men here. Hauser taught me how to defend myself against a bigger foe. Venus came strolling into the showers flanked by two witches and zeroed in on me right away.

“Nice tits,” she growled.

“Those paper shoes are a huge downgrade from your usual Louboutin’s, Venus.”

“Bitch!” she shrieked, flying at me.

The one thing that Venus was super sensitive about was shoes. When Hauser agreed to take that job with her, she always wore these tall heels. The first time she came to his house, she snapped a heel in his kitchen. She pitched this massive fit and got dramatic about it like it was somehow Hauser’s fault she stepped wrong.

I ducked as Venus’s fist flew at my face. She shrieked when her hand connected with the tile. She brought two witches with her, but they weren’t helping her. I could fight Venus off, but I’d have issues fighting off three of them. They were both exchanging looks like they didn’t know if they should jump in. The other inmates had formed a circle around us and were chanting. They didn’t know either of us to root for either one. They just wanted to see us beat each other up.

Venus tried to grab my long hair. I was a goner if she got ahold of it. My fist darted out and clipped her in the mouth. I laughed and danced around like a boxer.

“That was for Hauser, you double-crossing bitch.”

“I’m going to kill you, Rei!” Venus shrieked.

The witches finally stepped in, but not like how I thought. They pulled Venus away from me like I was one of them. How curious.

“Stop it! Astrid didn’t approve of this. You can’t kill anyone here unless she says so. Do you want to piss off every witch in Silverhold getting on her bad side?”

“I’m only in here because of that stupid fox! She has it coming.”

The two witches started dragging her out of the shower.

“It doesn’t matter. Everything goes through Astrid.”

“Then take me to Astrid right this minute!”

I just laughed and grabbed my towel to dry off. Astrid may decide to risk her access to Dakarys and Rajack’s black market and let her come for me, but I doubted it. Venus was going to piss off every witch in here because she wouldn’t drop this.

When I went to leave the shower, I realized Faust had been there watching the entire thing go down, and he hadn’t stepped in to try to stop the fight that would have happened if those witches hadn’t stepped in. I breezed past him.

“Enjoy the show, perv?”

Faust just smirked at me.

“That witch was right about your tits, inmate. Nice,” he said, letting out a wolf whistle.

“I hate you.”

“Watch your fucking mouth, inmate. I have a vested interest in keeping you alive until I figure out what you are. You’re going to need all the help you can get in here if you piss off the witches. I don’t want you dead. Yet.”

“That’s comforting.”

“Get to the mess hall, inmate. I’m backed up on paperwork, and I haven’t gotten to your commissary yet. It’s the only way you’re eating until I get around to it.”

I stalked off to my locker and started getting dressed. I had a feeling Faust was going to use my commissary as part of this hunt of his, and it could take ages for me to get my funds. Several people in the showers had flip flops. I desperately wanted a pair because the showers were nasty. Venus had witches here she could borrow things from. It looks like she’d wrapped her feet in maxi pads when she tried to assault me in the shower.

If I started growing some sort of fungus on my feet from those showers because Faust was dicking around with my commissary, I was going to be upset.

’d done a little digging on my not fox shifter. I knew who the witch was who came in the shower to beat her face in. I would have stepped in if it went too far, but I was hoping she’d do something to give me a little hint. Her cuffs were keyed to neutralize a shifter, and she wasn’t even remotely close. Whatever she was, she’d still have her magic. I was hoping she’d use a little to hurt the witch.

Whoever taught her to fight trained her well. It just had to be a wolf, which raised
