His Runaway Mate (Unexpected Mates #4) - Brea Alepou Page 0,1

we?”

Indigo looked at the slice of bread that was mostly peanut butter now. It was entirely too much.

“Here, I’ll do that, and you continue to think how you’re going to win over a certain someone,” Kash said.

Indigo dropped his head. “Is it that obvious?”

Kash laughed and tied his golden strands back before washing his hands. “You want the truth?” Kash asked.

No, yes—maybe. Indigo groaned, finally nodding.

“Yeah, it’s obvious you look at him like he hung the moon, and to be honest, he looks at you the same way.”

Really? Indigo could feel the hope blossoming in his chest.

“And I don’t know what really happened between you two, and it’s not my business, but—” Kash turned to stare Indigo in the eyes, and the power of the alpha wafted off him strongly. “You hurt him again and I will rip your nuts off and sauté them before shoving them down your throat.”

Indigo had no plans of ever repeating his mistake from five years ago. Even without Kash’s threat, he planned to hold and cherish Logan forever. He just needed to convince Logan of it.

“Thanks for the nightmare,” Indigo said.

Kash gave him a toothy grin. “I do aim to please.”

“Yeah you do,” Dezi said, walking up to Kash and putting his hand on his waist before pulling him taut against his chest. The love they had for each other was palpable and almost too much to bear when Indigo wanted the same thing with Logan but couldn’t quite have it just yet.

“Yet” being the key word.

Kash laughed. “You put the twins down?”

Kash passed a better-looking peanut butter sandwich over to Indigo, and he left the two mates and made his way to the table.

“Here you go, princess,” Indigo said, giving the plate of food to his daughter. She politely handed Clyde his tablet back.

“Thank you, Daddy. Clyde, can we play that game later?”

Clyde smiled at her. “Of course, anytime you want.” He ruffled her curls before going back to whatever he was doing prior.

Indigo watched his daughter eat for a bit before a foot connected with his leg under the table. He glanced up, catching Clyde’s eyes. Indigo lifted a brow in question, and Clyde nodded his head for them to take their conversation outside of the kitchen. With Gabriella only being five, her hearing hadn’t developed to shifter ability yet, so just moving a bit out of earshot was fine, and Indigo could still monitor her.

“You gotta do something about the moping,” Clyde said.

“I don’t mope,” Indigo said defiantly.

Clyde laughed. “Oh, shit, you’re serious, you think you don’t mope.” Clyde scratched at his facial hair. “Cole.”

Cole, like the Energizer Bunny, popped up with a smile on his face. He was only an inch shorter than Indigo and Clyde. His bright eyes shone with mischief. He hung his arms around Clyde’s shoulders and leaned heavily against the other man. They could seriously be brothers with how similar they looked. There were differences, but not many. Clyde had a strong jaw and his hair was a little darker, closer to dirty blond, whereas Cole had an angular face and his hair was a brighter blond.

“What’s up?” Cole asked.

“Indigo says he doesn’t mope,” Clyde said.

Cole’s eyes went big, and he placed a hand on his chest. “Man, you better take those pants off right now. I know they have to be hot.”

It took Indigo far too long to understand where Cole was going with the joke.

“You know, because liar, liar, panthers on fire,” Cole said. He waved his hand in front of his face. “Dezi would have gotten it.”

Indigo was about to correct him but finally caught on that Cole was referring to Indigo’s animal side. He stifled the groan that threatened to escape him. There was no doubt in Indigo’s head that their alpha would have understood the lame joke. He’d probably tell it himself.

“You have got to get out more. You are spending way too much time with Dezi,” Clyde remarked.

Cole shrugged. “I’ve been with Kash lately.”

Clyde shook his head.

“That’s just as bad,” Indigo said, laughing with them.

In his search for his mate, Indigo had asked for temporary placement in three different shifter groups. The last had been Huning Prowl. He’d gotten along with the alphas and had considered stopping his search for Logan. Soon Gabriella would need to attend school, and she deserved a stable home, not constantly moving when Indigo thought he might have a lead on his mate. But lo and behold, he’d finally found the man, and the pride
