His Apprehensive Mate - Brea Alepou Page 0,26
they hurt runts, then her fate would end up like his or worse,” Hodge said, understanding in his tone. “Dare I ask what pack he is from?”
Dezi sighed as he scratched at his facial hair. His dark eyes cut to Kenny, and still Kenny couldn’t bring himself to say the pack name without growling or his anger overtaking him.
“Vast Pack,” Dezi answered.
Cinxia hissed. “You have got to be kidding me. That wolf pack alpha is known for his brutal way of running his pack.”
Hodge grunted, but before he could say anything, Rudd tugged on his shirt. A nonverbal communication happened between them. Hodge looked around at each of his members, and they gave a subtle head nod.
“We would be happy to back your pride up on this. Is there any date?”
Dezi shook his head. “They haven’t attacked. I’m not sure they know exactly where he ran off to. But we’ve been keeping tabs, and they are making their way here.”
Hodge turned to Kenny. “I’m guessing if it comes down to it, you want all rights to fight the alpha?”
Kenny tilted his head slightly, giving respect to Hodge. “Yes.”
“Very well, but what about the Blaze Pack? Why do they have a different time?”
“They returned my mate back to the pack when he asked for asylum,” Kenny said.
“Knowing he was being abused?” the one introduced as Indigo asked.
“Yes.”
The sound of approaching cars had them halting their conversation, and two cars pulled to a stop a few feet away from them. Kenny expected to see Trist hop out off the car, but instead Gev, the beta of Blaze Pack, was the one to jump out and open the back door. A woman got out, and six wolves followed suit, none of whom Kenny knew. They’d been on decent terms with Blaze Pack before, but it seemed they’d had a change in command. Dezi and Hodge looked over at Kenny; they were just as surprised as him.
Kenny walked over to stand slightly behind Dezi, flanked by Rhy and Clyde. Cinxia, Indigo, and Mavi did the same behind Hodge and Rudd. The woman stood tall, her back straight as she made her way over to them with a confidence that spoke of an alpha. Deep red lips curved up.
“I see we are a little late to the party,” she remarked.
“On the contrary, you are just on time,” Dezi said.
Her smile never dimmed. “I am Yovan Fay, the new alpha of the Blaze Pack wolves.”
“Dezi of Bliss Pride.”
“Hodge and Rudd of the Huning Prowl.”
Introductions all around were quick. Yovan cleared her throat. “Gev told me a little bit about what this meeting is about, and if it’s to deal with the pack I’m thinking of, then you can count us in. That is, if you would still like our assistance.”
She was a new alpha; she hadn’t been the one to turn Morgan around, but what was to say she wasn’t the same. It all came down to how she took over the pack. If she fought for leadership, then her ideals lining up with the previous alpha was most unlikely, but if she inherited, then her way of thinking may be similar.
Gev took a step forward. “Alpha Yovan fought for the right to be the alpha of the Blaze Pack.”
Kenny stared at the woman. Was he really willing to chance it all? Dezi said nothing, and Kenny knew he was waiting on him. Dezi was the alpha, there was no denying that, but how Dezi ran his pride was closer to a family unit. Morgan was Kenny’s mate; he had a big say-so. But with the Blaze Pack on their side, they had a better chance to fight the Vast Pack wolves off.
“Vast Pack are the ones we are against,” Kenny said.
Yovan’s smile dimmed as a serious look came over her face. “Would you allow us to join you? I have my own personal vendetta against that pack.”
“That’s good to hear. Your last alpha was apparently cordial with the Vast Pack,” Dezi pointed out.
Yovan growled. “Yes, well, that weakness has been removed from the Blaze Pack.”
That was all the answer they needed. They could work together. Her hatred for the Vast Pack came through clear, and her thoughts about the previous alpha of the Blaze Pack were not favorable. She was a strong alpha, and the Blaze Pack wasn’t a large pack of wolf shifters, but they weren’t considered small either.
“The alpha of Vast Pack goes to my beta,” Dezi said.
Yovan looked as if she was
