breathless anticipation for an explanation. When Khane leaned forward and placed a tender kiss on Desiree’s stomach, the group lost their waiting tension and began clapping, cheering, hooting, and hollering.
Tywin stepped up and placed a delicate hand at the small of my back, smiling at the sight of the happiness swirling around the room. The crowd settled after a while and the space became filled with the heavenly sounds of baby talk and laughter while the food and drinks flowed freely.
There was no telling how long I had been standing there grinning like I’d won the gossip lottery, but it took Tywin’s words and the tender kiss he placed on my cheek to break the trance.
“Are you having a good time?” he asked.
“We’re having a baby,” I mumbled quietly, not answering his question.
“I know,” he replied, grinning at Khane who continued to receive periodic pats on the back and Desiree who had taken a seat on the couch between Mecca and Lady A.
“We haven’t had a Vallin baby in this family since Arlo. This kid is going to get spoiled rotten,” Tywin continued.
I gripped his muscular bicep and yanked hard to get his attention. We had never had a discussion about kids and considering the way his son had been conceived, I wasn’t sure if he would consider having another child.
“Tywin,” I whispered, noticing the slight shake in my voice. I should have said something sooner, but I was caught up in Desiree and Khane’s moment and didn’t want to take away from the joy they deserved.
“I didn’t mean my statement how you took it,” I stated, reading the puzzled expression on his face. “I meant that we, you and I, are having a baby too. Apparently, birth control wasn’t strong enough to stop your sperm.” I corrected him, speaking with deliberate purpose.
Tywin froze in much the same way Khane had. His unblinking gaze was fixed on the wall in front of us like his brain was re-processing what I had said. I waved a hand in front of his face to make him blink.
He turned and spun me around to face him in that quick way he usually saved for the bedroom. “You. We. Us. Me and you,” he uttered, unable to form a sentence.
I had been hanging on to the secret for a few weeks now, unsure how to tell him and unsure how he would take the news, considering his first baby momma. There was also the fact that we had only been together for four months.
His smile spread gradually and before I uttered another word, I was up and off my feet and in his arms being twirled around like I was on a fair ride. Tywin’s reaction eased every bit of tension I had been hanging on to for two weeks.
All eyes were aimed at us now. He placed me on my feet and took his time staring me down from head to feet before placing a sweet kiss on my forehead.
“I love you, Patrena,” he said in a tone so caring that my eyes instantly filled with water.
“I love you too,” I choked out.
He took my face between his palms. “You will be the best mother to our child, the best wife, the best everything I could have ever wanted.” He turned and faced the crowd. “This woman has made me the happiest man in the world. She’s pregnant too!” he shouted.
The crowd erupted into another round of shouts and roars, and I think I heard someone say, Holy shit! I stood there with a big grin on my face staring around at everyone cheering us on.
When Tywin dropped to one knee, I damn near went down with him, but his strong hands around my waist kept me standing. I hadn’t noticed how closely and how intensely we were being watched until Tywin reached out a hand and Arjen handed him a pretty little blue box.
What the hell was happening right now? Two Vallin babies were in the oven and a proposal was about to take place all in one night. My damn knees were about to give out, but Mecca took one arm and Desiree looped her arm around my other to allow Tywin a chance to do something I’d never expected to happen in my lifetime.
He opened the box and inside was a ring. Personally, I didn’t care if it were a plastic one from one of those bubble-gum machines. However, this was the most beautiful thing I’d seen, a princess-cut light green emerald with a diamond halo set in platinum.
Did he know that my favorite color was green? Of course, he did. There wasn’t much we hadn’t shared with each other through the months.
“Patrena, will you marry me?”
My hand shook so bad Mecca held it steady for me until Tywin slipped on my ring. Tears were flowing down my cheeks so hard it blurred my vision, but I managed to give the answer to a question I only wanted to come from Tywin Vallin.
“Yes!”
