a stickler for getting all your hours in.” Morrison sounded exhausted.
Sophie giggled behind us. Lola joined in a few seconds later. I couldn’t help myself and started laughing along with the girls.
“What’s so funny? Is there something stuck to the back of my shirt? Did I step in dog poo?” Morrison checked the bottom of his shoes while I moved over to the girls and their signs.
“No sign of dog poo. What on earth is so funny, you two?” Morrison turned around to see the three of us kneeling behind homemade signs. Ahab’s litter romped and played beside us.
“Uncle Hennessey wants to marry you! Be our Uncle! We want to be flower girls,” he read from the signs. “Oh my goodness.” His hands fluttered to his heart when he noticed me kneeling with a ring in my hand.
“We’re waiting for an answer.” I grinned at him. It was obvious Morrison was stunned speechless. He hadn’t seen this coming. My goal had been to make the proposal a complete surprise and that was exactly what it was.
Ahab moved from the pups to nudge Morrison’s hand as if to say, “What are you waiting for?”
“Hennessey, I can’t believe it.” Morrison rushed to me, thrusting his left hand out. It was shaking. “Yes! I’ll marry you!”
I slipped the ring onto his hand and got back to my feet. Morrison wrapped himself around me.
“I can’t believe we’re getting married.” Morrison pressed his tear-stained face against my neck.
“Me flower girl!” Lola tugged at my pants.
“Me too!” Sophie chimed in.
“Yes, you’re both flower girls. We’ll get you the most beautiful princess dresses you’ve ever seen,” Morrison agreed.
Hugging Morrison tighter, I knew the rest of my life would be filled with love, laughter, and dogs. Maybe a baby or two down the road, but that was another story.
