The Healer's Hellion - Miranda Bridges Page 0,23

the common room where the other human women are staying. It’s kind of like a master suite but with connecting rooms that lead into a living room and kitchen. I avoided coming here for the last two days, since I used that time to grieve my parents and practice using my power, but now I just really want some human interaction.

The five of them are there, sitting and talking quietly among themselves. I recognize the girl who had the broken arm, and she seems completely healed, which is a relief. When they all look at me, I give them a little wave and slap a smile on my face. Just because I’m reeling over Braxton’s confession doesn’t mean I need to show it.

“Hey,” I say in greeting.

A chorus of hellos hits the air as I settle myself in an empty space on one of the couches. There’s no animosity coming from the group toward me as the newcomer, which is nice. Just because we are no longer on Earth doesn’t mean women won’t be catty.

“I’m Skylar,” I say. “How’s it going?”

The girl that had her arm repaired introduces herself as Mary. There’s a brunette who goes by the name Caitlyn, followed by two blondes who are Teresa and Kimberly. The raven-haired woman goes by Sofia.

“We’re all pretty freaked out,” Mary says, and the rest of them nod.

“I totally get that.” I lean back, propping my elbow on the back of the couch. “Who knew aliens were a real thing, huh?”

“Those alligator men scared the shit out of me,” Kimberly says. “I was just watching TV in my living room when they showed up. Thank goodness my roommates weren’t home.”

I give them a wry smile. “Rescued from aliens by aliens. Crazy.”

“So far these Dravians haven’t done anything except help us.” Mary scrunches her face. “Those reptile dickheads tried to rip my arm off when I wouldn’t leave with them. Skylar was there when the doctor fixed it. I seriously thought I was going to die from the pain.”

I grimace. “Yeah, I’m not going to lie. It looked really bad. Good thing Braxton was there.”

“Is that the doctor’s name?” Kimberly asks. “He’s hot. Actually, they all are.”

I slowly nod, unsure about how I feel hearing her talk about Braxton like that.

“Hot?” Teresa repeats. “That guy is scorching. I’d break my arm on purpose if it would get him to probe me.”

Everyone laughs except me. Yes, I know Braxton is gorgeous, and I’d be an idiot if I thought I was the only one who noticed. However, I’m the one he held and comforted and the one he just kissed with a passion so fierce it made my head spin and my sex become drenched. The idea of him sharing those experiences with another has my fists clenching.

“Do you know what they plan to do with us?” I ask, hoping to steer the conversation away from Braxton.

A couple of the women shrug, and then Mary says, “I hope they take us back to Earth after they rescue the others from the gators.”

Kimberly purses her lips and tosses her golden hair over her shoulder. “I don’t want to go back. There’s nothing waiting for me.”

“So you’d go with the Dravians?” I lean forward and rest my forearms on my thighs, eager to hear what she has to say. It never occurred to me that someone would actually prefer a life away from our home planet. I’ve been so focused on Camille that I haven’t taken the time to consider it. I just assumed we’d all go back to our lives, but now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t know what I want to do. Like Kimberly said, there’s nothing waiting for me either.

But the idea of leaving Camille doesn’t sit well with me.

Kimberly nods. “I hated my life and wouldn’t mind having a do-over.” Her mouth quirks up, and a gleam enters her gaze. “Besides, these Dravians are way hotter than any man back on Earth.”

“Handsome or not, I don’t want to stay,” Mary says with an emphatic shake of her head. “I appreciate what Braxton and the others have done, but I have plans and dreams I want to accomplish back home.”

I tap my fingers in thought. “I’m sure this is nothing but a detour or a small delay before our lives go back to normal.” My voice sounds insincere to my ears, but from the expressions of those around me, it didn’t translate as such. With the death of my parents
