and disconnecting the attempted com again.

“This makes no sense,” he growled. Then he turned his attention on the medical assistant. “Check your records, has she been here before you came on duty?” he asked.

The female began to scroll through information that ran across one of the screens sitting in front of her. “She was here yesterday morning, but she’s not been back,” she explained.

“There is nothing else in there?” he demanded.

The female scrolled a bit more, then turned to look at him. “No sir. That’s the last time she was here. There is a note that the Healer Master attempted to contact her, but according to this, she’s not yet responded to his message. She’s simply not here, sir. Perhaps she is with friends.”

Lo'San turned and ran from the medical clinic. He rushed toward the lift and while the lift was taking him to the Command Deck, where he knew Zha Quin was currently on duty, he spoke to Missy again. “Missy, find Sink Lar!”

“I’ll search for her, General,” Missy answered.

The lift doors opened and Lo'San sprinted out of the lift, barely pausing as the doors to the Command Deck almost didn’t open in time for him to squeeze through them as he burst onto the Command Deck. “Is Sink Lar with your Ehlealah?” Lo'San demanded.

Ba Re’ looked up as Lo'San asked if his female was with Elisha. “Of course not. Elisha is fast asleep. Why would you think she’s with my Elisha?” Ba Re’ asked.

“General Lo'San?” Missy interrupted, ever the polite AI system.

“What?!” Lo'San barked out.

“I’ve completed a sweep of the ship, sir. Your mate, the human Synclare, is not aboard, sir.”

Lo’San’s heart dropped. His chest began to heave, he was practically hyperventilating.

“What do you mean, she’s not aboard this ship?!” Ba Re’ demanded of Missy.

“I’ve swept the ship for her identifying vitals, Lieutenant Commander. She is simply not onboard,” Missy answered.

“That can’t be right! Search again!” Ba Re’ ordered.

“One moment,” Missy answered.

Lo'San and Ba Re’ stared at each other while the seconds ticked past like hours, until Missy finally collected the information they needed.

“The human Synclare, is not on this ship,” Missy said once more.

“It can’t be right!” Lo'San growled.

“When did you last see her?” Ba Re’ asked.

“Early this morning. I spent the day with my father, my mother stayed with Sink Lar. She was sleeping as we’d just finished our last fertility treatment. They make her ill, she took her medicine and slept the day away,” Lo'San explained. “I haven’t seen her in so many hours,” he said, his voice betraying his worry. “I should have stayed with her,” he said, swiping his hands down his face nervously.

“Maybe she went to medical but was not checked in,” Be Re’ said.

“I’ve been there. She’s not there, hasn’t been there,” Lo'San said, his voice going deeper with each passing moment.

“The computer has been misled before,” Ba Re’ said, trying to ease his mind. “I can run a check on Missy’s systems.”

“I’m going to check with Rokai,” Lo'San said, spinning on his heel and rushing away.

“Why Rokai?” Ba Re’ asked.

“Maybe she’s with Rosie,” Lo'San answered.

“I’ll start the analysis on the system now. I’ll let you know what I find,” Ba Re’ called after him. “But how well do you trust your family?”

Chapter 20

Rokai was sleeping when a pounding outside his quarters woke him up.

“The hell is that?” Rosie asked, sitting up in bed.

“Someone wishing to be shot,” Rokai grumbled.

“I call first shot,” Rosie answered.

Rokai got out of bed and went to his door completely naked. As he swiped the sensor for the door to open, he shouted ‘What do you want?’ as loud as he could.

Lo'San was standing on the other side of his threshhold as the door opened. “Is Sink Lar with you?” he asked.

“What?” Rokai said, a little more calmly.

“Is she here?” Lo'San demanded.

“No!”

Lo'San turned and ran back down the corridor.

“Where are you going?” Rokai stepped into the corridor and shouted.

“She’s missing!” Lo'San yelled back without turning back to him.

“Son of bitches!” Rokai cursed, going back inside his quarters to put clothes on and go after Lo'San.

“What’s wrong?” Rosie asked, as she met him halfway between their bedroom and their living space.

“Lo'San has already screwed everything up. Synclare is missing. I’m going to help him look.”

“Unbelievable. You need me to come help?” Rosie asked.

“No, my Rosalita. Go back to sleep. I’ll return shortly.

Lo'San was standing outside his parents’ assigned quarters, pounding on the door when Rokai caught up to him. “Open this door!” Lo'San demanded.

Lo'San looked at Rokai
