aboard this ship. But I must go now. I will return as soon as I can,” Lo'San promised.

Synclare kissed him back and smiled at his promises. “It’s alright. Do what you have to and find me when you’re done.”

Lo'San nodded and kissed her again before rushing away.

Synclare looked around the small, cramped room Lo'San had chosen for his own, and realized there was nothing at all personal about the room. The only thing that showed it was lived in were the extra blankets on the bed, and the clothes in the storage unit. All else was regulation as it had been built. “I’ll make him a real home,” Synclare said to herself as she got out of bed and walked the few steps into the cleansing chamber. She got cleaned up, put her clothes from the previous night back on, and made her way to the quarters she’d been assigned. They were small, too, but not as military regulation as Lo’San’s were. Once there she changed clothes, brushed her teeth and headed to the commissary for breakfast, all the while wearing a perpetual smile. She was a mated female now. Married for all intents and purposes, and very happily so — she loved her husband dearly.

Lo'San went straight to the Command Deck, surprised when he stepped through the doors and found Ba Re’ at the helm.

“My apologies for arriving late,” Lo'San said, striding toward the command chair.

“What are you doing here?” Ba Re’ asked, turning from where he stood over Vennie examining a chart Vennie had prepared for him to view.

“I’m on duty. I was to relieve Sire Tel Mo’ Kok. It is my responsibility you had to be called in my stead. I offer my sincere apologies, Lieutenant Commander,” Lo'San said.

“Unless I’m sadly mistaken, you claimed your mate last night,” Ba Re’ said.

Lo'San couldn’t help but grin, and he gave a single nod as he stood ramrod straight, his stance one of military precision just as he was known for. “I did.”

“Then you have time alloted to you to complete that process. Go back to her. Now. I’m on deck until our Sire returns.”

“But…” Lo'San said, not quite sure how he felt about not having received formal approval to take leave to tend his bond with his mate.

“Quin and I both watched our females last night. We saw you leave with Synclare. We are aware of your mating. You should be with her,” Ba Re’ said. “And congratulations, General. I personally wish you every happiness.”

Lo'San smiled. “Thank you, Lieutenant Commander.”

“While normally, I wouldn’t consider ordering you about for any reason… you do outrank me,” Ba Re’ said, “But under the circumstances — Go! You have no business on duty for at least a week. Leave me!” Ba Re’ ordered, pointing to the doors.

Lo'San grinned. “Understood. And thank you.” Lo'San spun on his heel and wasted no more time arguing about where he should be at the moment. He knew exactly where he needed to be — beside Sink Lar. Then he remembered his quarters and the fact that they were far from sufficient for his female. “Oh!” he said, turning back to Ba Re’. Ba Re’ was head of engineering. His department included assignment of quarters, though he did not handle it personally — he had those who handled such things for him. “I will be applying for new quarters this day.”

“There are several available in the same corridor as Quin’s and Kol’s quarters. We are holding Kol’s quarters for his eventual return, but, other than that, any other empty one is available. Stop by my offices and get a list to review. I’ll let Gaishon know you’ll be in and that you are to be assigned any you choose,” Ba Re’ said. “It’s about time you upgraded to one suiting your position anyway.”

Lo'San gave a nod. “Thank you.”

Ba Re’ stood watching Lo'San as he turned and headed away from the Command Deck as quickly as he’d rushed onto it. He was happy for the male. Lo'San was a very private, very controlled male, but none better in character and loyalty could be found. He deserved good things.

Chapter 7

Quin reached out in his semi-sleep state and attempted to pull Vivian to him, only to find her place beside him warm and fluffy. He opened his eyes to see Kitty lying on his back with his feet in the air, looking right back at him.

“Why are you in my bed?” Quin grumbled.

Kitty simply mrowled at him and swished his tail.

Quin
