After pulling away for the briefest of moments so we could catch our breath, she bent down and attacked my mouth anew. Our tongues tangled together in a thoroughly aggressive manner, and her teeth nipped and bit playfully. It was a kiss that went from hesitant and careful to one that was wet and wanton in seconds. I was holding onto the curve of her backside like it was a lifeline, and I could feel the way her breasts flattened against my chest, her nipples hard, making themselves known.
This was insanity in the best way. If I’d known how good it would feel to have even a little part of her, I wouldn’t have been so cautious to get her into bed to prove a point and take a stance. The plan had been to ruin her, not to be ruined by her.
But here I was, on the verge of being very destroyed.
Just as I was about to tangle a hand in her hair and roll her over so that she was on the ground and I was able to grind and glide, she suddenly pulled away and scrambled off me like my skin had sprouted thorns. I was dumbfounded for a split second as she bolted to her feet and hurriedly grabbed her fallen bag. She was at the front door when I finally got to my feet, and when a sleepy Vernon rounded the corner carrying a laptop, I realized why she looked so spooked.
I had no idea how she could hear anything over the sound of our breathing or the pounding of my heart, but she must’ve known we were about to be interrupted and ran rather than bumble through an awkward explanation. At least, that was the only option I was willing to consider. I felt the way she responded to me. There was no way in hell she wasn’t as into what we were doing as I was.
I rubbed my thumb over my bottom lip and looked at Vernon as his unusual eyes skipped between me and the front door that Ollie just slammed shut. He lifted a dark brow and asked, “Aren’t you supposed to be in class right now?”
I grunted in response and lifted a hand to my chest to cover the spot where Ollie had been touching my heart. “Why does everyone have my damn schedule memorized? It’s like living with three moms.”
I was harsher than the situation called for, but Vernon was far tougher than he looked. He simply rolled his eyes and made his way to the couch. He made himself comfortable while he did whatever he did on his ever-present computer. Hell, he might be taking over a foreign government, or even our own government, for all I knew.
“I know your schedule because we’re family, and we keep track of each other. If I don’t know where you are, I worry. As for Ollie, I’m sure she knows when you’re supposed to be coming and going so she can avoid your sneaky ass. She’s smarter than you give her credit for. You want to burn her so badly; you aren’t paying attention to the fact that the flames don’t give a shit what they scorch. Fire is indiscriminate, my friend.”
I shook my head and walked by the back of the couch so I could knock my knuckles on the top of his head on my way out the door. There was no point trying to make it to the class I’d already missed half of, but I didn’t want to be late for my next one. “She was doing the very opposite of avoiding me. Which you were about two seconds away from walking in on.”
I wasn’t sure if I should thank him or curse him for interrupting what had been quickly getting out of control on the floor. Either way, I needed a minute to get my head around how I was feeling toward Ollie. Aside from turned on and hot as hell.
Vernon just laughed and muttered, “Some people can’t wait to watch the world burn. Be sure to let me know how those flames feel when they finally catch up with you, Huck.” He turned his head and gave me a crooked grin. “Also, you might wanna wipe the coral lipstick off your mouth before you head to class. It isn’t your color at all.”
I swore at him as I pulled the front door shut behind me, furiously scrubbing at my tender and slightly swollen lips
