had friends in California, two I cared deeply about, but friends were friends no matter where you lived and Anaya was in Maryland. I could be closer to her and baby Maxine.
“I’ll move here.”
The words had barely slipped out when suddenly I was on my back.
“Swear to you, I won’t let you down.”
I didn’t answer. Not because I didn’t have something to say but because Gabe kissed me breathless.
After he was done with my mouth he did what he said he was going to do. And he was hungry—he ate and ate until I was begging him to stop. Then he went on to prove he was a machine and went for rounds three and four. When Gabe was done I wasn’t thinking about moving across the country or the monumental life-changing decision I’d made on the fly.
I passed out.
Happy. Relaxed. And it was worth the repeat—seriously freaking happy.
Chapter 21
I woke up to my cell ringing and a naked Evette tucked to my side. Immediately I thought this was a much better way to wake up. My next thought was I wanted to kill whoever was calling this early.
“What the hell?” Evette muttered sleepily.
Oh, hell, yes. This was a much better way to wake up.
“Go back to sleep, honey.”
I rolled out from under Evette, tagged my phone, and sat on the edge of the bed.
Christ, it wasn’t even six in the morning.
“Do you ever sleep?” I brought my phone to my ear and groused.
“Delilah made contact.” Garrett launched straight in and I lost the last remnants of grogginess.
“What’d she say?” I asked.
“Something must’ve scared the shit out of her. She accepted Zane’s offer.”
“Or she’s setting us up,” I returned.
“We’ll know in an hour. Tex is ready for a brief.”
“Seriously, does anyone fuckin’ sleep?”
“Are you gonna bitch or wake your woman and get your ass into the office?”
That was a tossup and when I glanced over my shoulder seeing Evette’s arm wrapped around the pillow I’d moments before been sleeping on, I wanted to tell Garrett we’d be skipping the meeting. Then when my gaze hit her bare shoulder and traveled lower to her mostly exposed breast I wanted to tell him we’d be out the whole day.
I didn’t have that option so I tore my eyes off Evette and answered, “See you soon.”
I disconnected, tossed my phone back onto the nightstand, and at the same time, there was a loud knock at the bedroom door.
“Why?” Evette groaned, still sleepy and shoved her face in the pillow.
“Yo! You get a call?” Cooper yelled through the door.
“Please make him go away,” Evette complained and rolled to her stomach.
“Be out in a minute,” I told Coop then stretched out beside Evette.
I knew the second I informed her Delilah had reached out she’d be out of the bed like a shot. So I kept that information tucked away for the moment and opted instead to wake her a different way.
“Gabe,” she breathed as soon as my lips brushed her shoulder.
“Time to wake up.”
“Too early.”
It was never too early to give my woman an orgasm and I communicated this by trailing my hand down her back, over her ass, then farther down until my fingers found what they were looking for.
“Hitch your knee up, honey, give me room.”
Evette did as I asked and spread her legs, giving me access to play. It didn’t take long until Evette was grinding against my fingers, shortly thereafter she tipped her ass higher, reaching for her climax. Primed and ready, I pulled my fingers out of her tight, wet heat and circled her clit. She buried her face deeper into the pillow and moaned. Her hips jerked and pressed harder. I gave her more until her body shook and she groaned her orgasm.
“Machine,” she muttered and I grinned.
“Shower time,” I said through a chuckle.
“I take that back. You’re not an orgasm-giving machine, you’re the devil.”
I pulled my hand out from between her legs and gave her sweet ass a swat, then I snatched her out of bed, pulling and walking her to the bathroom.
“Satan,” she grumbled when I set her on her feet and turned on the taps.
As soon as the water was warm I pulled her into the shower and under the spray.
“Prince of Darkness.” She continued her hilarious line of name-calling.
“Babe?” I called.
Her eyes opened and she tipped her head back to look at me. She was bitching and moaning but she smiled.
“Not sure what you’re complaining about,” I went on.
