a good right across my left cheek.
I feel my flesh split and smile wider. My left, right combination hits him faster and harder than his hit me. I body check him and he crumbles to the ground. The next asshole goes to pull the trigger on his gun, but I was in motion to stop him all along.
I have a small double edge glaive blade sailing through the air faster than this prick can think. His hand and gun are on the way to the ground as I catch my returning blade and toss my leg over my bike.
“Tell whoever sent you, I’m coming for them,” I bark as the motherfucker screams over his severed hand.
Before anyone can make me out in the shadows, I’m ghost. Just like the winged reaper I am. Some unlucky bastards are going to learn how I earned my patch and my tat.
Chapter 25
Report
Brick
I pulled over halfway back home. I need to fill King in on what I’ve found out. I pull my phone out and dial while still straddling my bike.
All exhaustion is forgotten as rage and adrenaline pump through my body. I’ve been turning this information over and over. Clayton’s voice ringing in my head.
“What have you got for me?” King says as he answers the phone.
I don’t waste time in my answer. “We’re looking at a few problems. Finch doesn’t want or can’t clear his debt so he’s selling us out so he doesn’t have to pay.”
“Son of a bitch. I’d been showing him a courtesy because of my old man. He’s done,” he grates out.
“I feel you. I’m on that one as soon as you give the word,” I reply. “Someone’s lurking in the shadows. Trying to take you and the club down. They want everything dear to you to burn.”
“What the fuck?”
I blow out a heavy breath. “I couldn’t get names. No one has one for me yet, but trust me, I’ll get it or them. Whoever’s behind this has my full attention now.”
“What else have you got? I hear it in your voice,” King says tightly.
“First, Mags has shaken some shit loose with her games. She’s a bigger player in this. Her problem, it’s ours, but ours is aware of her problem and wants it to be ours. You feel me?”
“Yeah, I got you. It’s time to handle her ass. We remove her and that clears a path,” he replies.
“Yeah, but something’s incomplete. I’m not ready to move her off the board. Soon brother,” I say thoughtfully. “I think it’s better to keep her close for now.”
“I’m trusting your judgment, but you know how I feel. Reel that shit in.”
I grunt and move onto the other part of the night that has my attention. “Second, I was attacked outside the club. I sent a warning, but it’s clear these motherfuckers are bold.”
King starts to curse, and I believe he throws something across the room as the mushing sound rings out over the phone. I can hear the rage building inside him over the line. I know the feeling all too well. I’ve been trying to ride it off on my way back to South Carolina.
That hasn’t happened yet.
“Get your ass back here. We need to strategize.” The line goes dead.
Chapter 26
Mine
Owen
The rest of the ride back still doesn’t help to release the tightness in my chest or the rage coursing through my veins. The more I think about it the more pissed I get. The open road has done nothing to clear my mind this time around either.
What I need is in the form of a little brown, five foot four package. I need to get my hands on Eva. In this moment, seeing her sweet face would be enough to soothe my soul.
My mama died when I was five and that’s what caused my daddy to move close to his sister in South Carolina. Before she died, my mama was my place of comfort. She was always gentle with me. Always had a smile for me.
I guess that’s what draws me to Eva. I can’t remember a time when she hasn’t had a smile for me, well, with the exception of the night I left her here at the clubhouse.
I climb off my bike, the exhaustion returning, but the first thing on my mind is to find my way to Eva. My room here at the club is nowhere near hers. Cage made sure that the girls’ rooms here were off on their own end of the club.
