don’t know. I think I just needed to hear your voice,” I reply.
“Eva?”
“Yeah?”
She’s quiet again. “Nothing, I’m glad you called. It’s good to hear your voice.”
“Yeah, yours too. I miss you. I have to come see you or something. Maybe when my internship is over.”
“Oh, yeah, how’s that going? King mentioned it. Do you like it?”
I smile, thinking of my talk with Owen earlier. I am learning a ton from him. I was a bit intimidated by working with actual paper blueprints and not a CAD program, but I’ve learned so much.
When I do get to work on a computer, I see the plans differently. It makes me feel like I’m getting things done more efficiently.
“I like it. It’s better than I thought.”
It’s on the tip of my tongue to tell her about Brick, but I swallow the words. As I do, movement at the door catches my attention. I turn to find Owen with his eyes on me as he leans against the doorjamb.
“Hey, I have to go. I love you, Sal. Talk to you later.”
“Love you too, Eva.”
I stand as Owen walks over to me. “I thought I put you to sleep,” he says, reaching to caress my face.
“You did. I woke up and my mind was wondering.”
He lifts me out of the tub. “Come on, let’s see if we can do something about that. I’m having trouble sleeping without you by my side.”
I smile.
Be his peace.
Chapter 19
Trouble
Eva
I smirk at the blueprints in front of me. I can feel Owen’s eyes on me. He’s on the phone at his desk behind me, but his attention has been on me all day. I think it’s the white sheath dress I took a chance on this morning. Or it might be the blue heels I bought at lunch yesterday with him in mind.
After having so much on my mind the other night, I had wanted to go shopping with Misty, but she’s still ignoring my calls and she’s answering me with these damn vague text messages. It wasn’t until yesterday morning that I found out she actually went back home for the summer.
She was supposed to stick around with me for the summer break if I got the internship. I feel bad. I’ve wondered if she left because I’ve been staying with Owen. I was so depressed about it all, I went shopping.
It would be what Misty would want to do to try to cheer me up. It never does, but it makes her happy, which does cheer me up. Only yesterday, I found myself really happy. The idea of Owen seeing me in these blue four-inch platform heels had me all types of giddy.
We are supposed to leave for NC tonight. Owen has church and he needs to return King’s bike. Work has kept us both busy this week. Owen is a workaholic and he wants things just so.
I still haven’t been to another worksite since Monday. I guess Owen trusts me here with Holden. I get the feeling that’s because rumor is that Holden is Tracks’ little, gay brother.
I’ve never seen him with anyone, but I’ve never seen him look at a woman either. I’ve never gotten too close to Holden or Tracks. Again, Squad members are next level Lost Souls. I stay far away.
I used to think Owen was Squad. I guess that was a part of my bad boy fantasies I made up in my head. Now, I just can’t see him as a part of the truly Lost Souls. Nope, not at all, I think as I feel him walk up behind me.
He places a hand on either side of me on the drafting desk. His cologne engulfs me, making me bite my lip. I turn my head up to him with my smirk still in place. He leans down and pecks my lips.
“I need to feed you soon,” he says as he searches my face. “What do you want today?”
“I don’t think you can order what I’m hungry for,” I purr up at him.
He gives me a sexy wolfish grin. When he dips his head again, he captures my lips in a searing kiss. Dropping his hand to my belly, he groans into my mouth.
My main concern about this dress had been my soft fleshy belly. Owen killed that worry when he walked up behind me in the mirror this morning. He made me feel beautiful.
He deepens the kiss as he moves his hand up from my belly to my breast. I cup a
