Fire (Pirate Cove Academy #3) - Rae Foxx Page 0,16

I could wield my power with precision, rather than blunt force, I could overpower Raven.

My little molten fire oozed over his body, not burning him. Caspian’s black eyes widened as the fire lifted him slightly. He hovered in the air and crossed his arms over his chest but didn’t try to stop me.

Who’s in control now, Siren?

I looked over my shoulder at the ocean and laughed to myself, an idea growing. Sirens belonged in the Below, and that was exactly where I was about to put him. I lifted my hands, concentrating on the force of the fire like I’d never concentrated on anything before. I willed it to lift Caspian until he was right above the wet sand and the incoming waves. I briefly looked up to his face, smirking at the tiniest glimpse of fear I saw there. One swish of my hands towards the sea and the bastard flew across the white caps and into the deep.

His outraged cry echoed away from us as I nearly choked on my laughter.

I took a bow and Kai clapped for me, laughing heartily.

Gods that felt good.

Caspian burst to the top, blowing out water like a whale that had spent too much time in the darkness of the sea without a breath, though it had only been seconds.

“You bitch,” He managed to yell despite his flailing, which quickly turned into a graceful swim as he changed. His skin turned to that eel-like gray and I could see the webbing between his fingers as he swam toward the shore.

“Remember when I told you not to target me?” He barked as he finally crawled onto the beach.

I scoffed. “Remember when you told me you had your own powers? You need to fucking learn to defend yourself. Raven will.”

He muttered something like ‘fucking princess’ under his breath, but his mouth was full of sand and salt water.

Kai just watched us like we were the most interesting television show in history. When Caspian reached me, he tried to wrap his hand around my waist again. His eyes told me I’d pay for that little stunt later. Though, whether that punishment would be sexy or not was unclear. My heart thumped once at the threatening promise I beheld in his eyes.

Right as he reached for my waist, water dripping off of him, Kai was suddenly there, shoving him away. Maybe my Bloodsworn wasn’t quite ready to see another man’s hands on me. I stepped back, watching Kai intercept the Siren over and over. Their little dance was mesmerizing. Growls and snaps of teeth rang out as they tussled.

“What’s the problem, bodyguard? Weren’t you ever taught to share?” Caspian hissed at Kai, snapping his still-pointed teeth, not fully shifted back yet from being tossed into the ocean.

“Share? She’s not a play set and we’re not toddlers. She’s a woman, and royalty at that. She can make up her own mind. Anyway, I’m her Bloodsworn, she should only be touched by me and me alone.”

That ship had sailed, and I had a feeling Kai already knew it.

“Come on,” Caspian chided. “You can still be first—sort of. How about, you can have the first hole and I can have the second. It’s kind of the same thing.” I rolled my eyes at that. Caspian and I might have belonged together, but he still had a long way to go in the whole ‘respecting women’ department.

“It’s not…” Kai’s anger came to a head and he closed the short distance they were from each other. As he rushed the Siren, Caspian grinned. Nothing had happened that I could see, but Kai’s face contorted in pain, and he froze in place.

“What are you doing to him?” I asked, rushing forward to stop my Siren from hurting my Bloodsworn. Caspian’s eyes widened at the concern in my voice, and he took a small step back, but still held on to Kai.

Regaining his posture, Kai whispered, “Stop it. Both of you. All of us. We’re supposed to be training her, not dick measuring. Back to training to take down Raven.”

Caspian kept his hold on Kai a little longer, just to show he still had some power, but then released him with a shrug when I glared so hard my face hurt. “Fine. But knock off the games and the showing off, Princess. Find a target, pretend it’s Raven’s face, and let’s do this.” I nodded, refocusing.

After the little spat, my training went on for hours on end. We spent those hours shaping my flames,
