Fire (Pirate Cove Academy #3) - Rae Foxx Page 0,15
pirates like the hunters can drain mortals? You only have one of those skills. You have the dark powers, meaning you can drain pirates.”
My skin tingled with the realization. I was the only one capable of taking down Raven.
“I’m the only one with powers that can defeat hers. I have the only powers that can match hers, even a little right now. No one else can do this. The bitch has upped her game, which means with time she might be able to grow even more powerful.”
Caspian smirked at me like he knew a secret I didn’t. Truth be told, I probably didn’t want to know his secrets at all. “This is exactly what she wants, princess. To catch you off of your game. Knock it the fuck off. Stop getting freaked out and let’s get to training you. Show the bitch what you’ve got. We don’t have time for years of practice with knife fights.”
The comment from Caspian made Kai lunge at him. “Knock it the fuck off, Caspian.”
Caspian stood and pushed at Kai’s chest. “Back the fuck off, bodyguard.”
“Hey, stop. I can do this. I can take the bitch down.”
That stopped them both in their tracks.
“I’m sick and tired of being the wilted princess that everyone bosses around and tells what to do. I am not a delicate anemone. The plan was always that I never return to the Below. That’s what I thought the deal was.” I bounced up and down on my legs. “How do we get started? When can we start?”
“I’ll train you,” Kai stepped forward, but Caspian rolled his eyes.
“Bullshit. What do you know about powers? Nothing. I have powers and know how to use them. I will train her. You can watch if you’re a good boy.”
“Bold of you to think I’d let you train me,” I quipped back at Caspian, who just squinted at my defiance. He knew I’d let him do a lot of things to me, and training was low on the list.
“Oh, you’ll let me and you’ll like it, Princess.” His voice had gone a shade sultry and I chose to ignore it.
“Fine,” Kai relented and went to sit on a boulder. “Come on then. Show me what you’ve got, Zan. Hit this motherfucker where it hurts.”

“Like she could,” Caspian grumped, walking over to me with squared off shoulders and a glint in his eyes that I didn’t recognize. I had gotten lost in my own thoughts about my powers and taking down Raven when Caspian grabbed me from behind, one of his hands trapping my wrists, literally handcuffing me.
I tried to whirl on him, struggling and fighting my entrapment.
Kai cleared his throat loudly, glaring at the two of us, and I took the chance as a distraction to wrench free and face Caspian. I knew he wanted me to be angry, wanted me to siphon that rage into my powers. This was supposed to be my training after all.
I sighed, focusing on my hands. I tried like hell to remember all the anger and rage that Raven so easily pulled out of me, and little flames of patheticness flickered in my hands.
“Gods, you look constipated. Remember, the magic, or the powers, or whatever is inside of you, they bend to your will. You’re not trying to push them out like a turd.”
Even Kai laughed at that.
“Aim for something—not me—and try to hit it. Just juggling flames in your hand isn’t going to kill anyone.” Fucker had a point.
“Fine.” I stomped my foot and shot the flame at a nearby boulder, trying to concentrate all my Raven feelings into the shot. The flame blasted toward the boulder and then crashed into the side of it. The boulder exploded and I felt a surge of pride.
Caspian actually smiled. “Good. Do it again. Another rock. We know you have it in you, we need consistency.”
Consistency didn’t happen. When I shot the next round of fire at another boulder, it just sat on the top like a dud firecracker and never blasted or broke anything. It just flamed there, taunting me.
“What did I say?” Caspian chided, making me rethink shooting the boulder and focus on shooting him instead.
“You know what? I’m not listening to you anymore,” I said and spread my palms out, facing Caspian. My fire pushed from my hands, but instead of blasting or rocketing toward the target, I forced it to slowly meander toward the Siren bastard. Maybe it was control that I needed to work on. Maybe if
