Dirty Sexy Alphas (Twenty Book Box Set) - Hannah Ford Page 0,318

like that. Couldn’t be.

Harper slid into the seat and the door closed, echoing in her head.

An ending.

She let herself have one last glance and saw Ethan trying to push out of his father’s grasp. The man said something and Ethan stopped struggling. She saw his mouth open and the way his jaw hardened. Anger hardened the lines on his face and he looked like an avenging angel, ready to destroy the whole world.

The sob that had been building finally burst free and her entire body shook. She pulled her knees to her chest and curled up on the seat. Pain gripped her muscles. Air lodged in her throat until she was gasping for every breath.

It hurt.

It hurt so damned much.

“Where to Miss?” the driver asked.

She met his gaze in the rearview mirror. There was nothing in his carefully blank expression as he waited for her reply.

Where to?

A broken laugh fell from her lips. Where the hell to?

She had nowhere. Nothing.

The clarity of just how alone she was surrounded her and another sob broke free. Breathing seemed possible with Ethan by her side, but now? There was nothing left. Her parent’s hadn’t called, her friends were long gone and now, she didn’t have Ethan.

She had no one.

She had nowhere to call home anymore.

Part IV

Unbroken (Stolen, Book Four) by Ella London

Chapter 1

The driver dropped Harper off at her apartment.

She stood and watched the car drive away, the lump in her throat making it hard to swallow. A spark of panic made her hands shake. What had she done? All she could think about was the look on Ethan’s face as she’d been driven away from him.

She’d left him standing there, without so much as a word of explanation as to why she was going.

Her stomach clenched as she imagined how it would have felt to her if Ethan had just taken off like that—if the shoe had been on the other foot.

But even if she’d made a huge mistake, she doubted that Ethan would be waiting if she came crawling back. He was probably relieved that she left. Now his life could go back to how it should be.

With a heavy heart, she let herself into her place. It felt colder now. Her gaze moved to the couch, where Ethan had owned her body. Goose bumps ran downs her arms and she couldn't stop the ache that started between her legs. Tears slid silently down her cheeks.

It was for the best, now Ethan would have the life that he would have if they’d never met, but it didn’t make it hurt any less. In the span of their time together, Harper had fallen for him hard.

The echo of her keys hitting the console table only reminded her of just how alone she was. What the hell was she going to do? She sank down onto the edge of the couch and dropped her face into her hands.

She had no job, no way to support herself and a baby, because her father had ruined that for her as well. Dozens of resumes sent out since her family’s scandal broke, and she was pretty sure that she’d been was blacklisted in the greater Boston area.

She’d have to widen her search, but to move would take money. She still had a tiny bit of savings, but she couldn’t afford an extra hit to her dwindling account.

“Rock meet hard place,” she mumbled bitterly.

Anger at her father burned in her gut. Without his scandal hanging over her head, she and Ethan might have had a chance. It wasn’t a conventional start, but they could have made it work. Ethan had made it clear that he would stick by her and she wanted that more than anything.

But ruining his reputation and future wasn’t a price she was willing to pay, and she wouldn’t let Ethan take the fall for her.

God she needed to talk to someone about everything. Kylie was her go-to person. The ache in Harper’s chest grew hotter remembering her best friend’s betrayal. Damn Kye. After everything that had happened already, Harper thought she could trust Kye with anything.

At least Kylie didn't know about the baby and couldn’t sell that info to the tabloids.

Harper laid her hand on her stomach. With Ethan this all seemed possible, but how in the hell was she going to raise a baby alone?

“I don’t know what the hell I’m doing,” she whispered. Yes you do, she thought. Get used to it buttercup because this is going to
