The Deputy and His Enforcer (Kincaid Pack #3) - Kiki Clark Page 0,49

in a large pack. Of course your wolf would be strong in his desires to mate your deputy.” She tilted her head and studied his face. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you blush except when the topic of sex comes up.”

“Tashmica!” He pulled back, and she let her hands fall away, a small smile on her face.

Settling back on her chair, she recrossed her legs and waited for him to sit again before continuing. “Other members of the pack don’t have as strong of pulls from their animal side, though if they wished to, I’m sure their mates would agree to accepting the bonding bite. Do you doubt your deputy will consent to your bite?”

His face felt like it was on fire, her words painting a picture in his head of a naked Robson beneath him in his bed, head turned to the side and offering his neck while Marcus filled him with his knot. It was his most-visited fantasy when he was alone at night, lying in bed by himself and touching his erection.

“Yes,” he choked out. “I have doubts.”

“Hmm.” She leaned back in her chair and tapped a finger on her mouth, ignoring his discomfort. “Would you feel better if you could offer him the opportunity to bite you as well?”

Breath freezing in his lungs, he stared at her for a long moment. “That’s… That’s not possible.”

She rolled her eyes and pulled her phone out from some hidden pocket in her flowing light pink dress. “Please. With the right combination of words and herbs and a strong enough witch, very few things are impossible. Let me get Damien on it—he actually knows more about mating magic than I do.”

That surprised him—not just that the quiet and shy witch Tash had taken under her wing could know about mating magic, but that Tashmica would so readily admit that he knew more. “Really? Why?”

“I never asked, though I suspect he knows his mate will be a shifter,” she said absently as she typed into her phone.

“Does he have premonitions as well?” He realized that other than being very powerful—according to Tashmica—they knew very little about the slight man’s abilities.

“No, I don’t believe so.” She tucked away her phone and smiled, letting him know she wouldn’t be answering any other questions about Damien.

He picked up his cold tea and swallowed the remaining half a cup. “Thank you, Tashmica. I hope he has some luck. I think… I definitely think Robson would be more open to being claimed by a shifter if he could claim me in return.” He shivered at the idea of Robson being able to sink his teeth into Marcus’s neck as well and then being able to proudly carry his mate’s mark. “Do you have any updates regarding Agnes’s murder?”

They knew whoever was orchestrating the attacks against their pack—including the explosion that cost Drake his arm—was the one who killed her, or at least ordered the murder. Whoever they were, they’d been thoughtful enough to include a note with her dumped body, letting Rick know they were coming for him and his pack.

She sighed, her shoulders slumping a little. “Nothing more than I had the last time I spoke with you all. Whatever killed her was powerful magic, and whoever did it was extremely adept at covering their tracks. Which”—she grimaced and shot apologetic eyes at him—“we already knew from the lack of evidence around Drake’s home or where Agnes and the others were breaking through the wards before we strengthened them. Whoever it is…”

When she didn’t continue, he leaned forward, worry filling him. “What?”

She shook her head to clear her clouded eyes and gave him a small smile. “Whoever it is, they are very powerful, and I think we won’t know who they are until they want us to know.”

“Is it possible it’s a certain Councilmember?” He thought about Wendy’s words about how Councilman Kincaid wanted to make an example of Rick and Kai.

She held out a hand and tipped it back and forth, her long nails and bright polish catching the late-day sun. “Not on his own. But I suppose he could be working with a witch—or a coven of witches.”

“The Council has a coven that works for them and protects them,” he reminded her, but she shook her head again.

“I’m not saying it’s impossible, but the Council coven serves the Council because they believe in balance and justice. Maybe one or two could be manipulated or convinced into attacking an innocent pack, but not
