responded by stating it didn’t matter if it happened behind the shop or in the front, Trevor was there for one thing. Payment for a debt that Tanner’s dad owed.

God, I hate his parents with a passion. What kind of man does that to his own son? A selfish one that’s for sure. If I could I’d go to Tanner’s parents’ house with a baseball bat and slam it in the big jerk’s head.

The rest of the month has been about me making sure Tanner healed rather than trying to get in my pants. Sure, we fooled around. Who wouldn’t? However, I refused to give in and let him do anything that would cause him any pain.

“Oh no, you start talking now. It’s been a month since we saw you in the salon. If Steph hadn’t told me about Tanner already, I’d be pissed you hadn’t. She’s the only saving grace you have right now in not letting me in the loop,” Emerson rants. It baffles me that she’s the only one who calls her sister by her first name rather than Connors like everyone else.

“I can’t help the fact that I’ve been somewhat preoccupied lately trying to make sure Tanner doesn’t hurt himself more than he already is. Better yet, go after the guys who hurt him,” I grumble speaking the truth. Tanner even called his brother, who’s away for school, to make sure he was aware of what had happened. Kobi needed to be on alert as well. None of us knew if Trevor would send one of his members after Tanner’s brother.

“Is that why you’re in such a grumpy mood?” Nora asks as she lifts the coffee mug up to her lips. Her eyes are not smiling like they usually do. If I’m honest with myself, Nora hasn’t been the same for a while now.

I don’t know what all happened to her, but I know she’d been shot a little over a year ago when crazy bitches wanted to cause problems for Emerson’s husband’s club. The only thing I do know is that some crazy bitch went off the deep end and Nora took a bullet when Emerson was kidnapped. Honestly, I don’t want to know the rest.

I’d probably have nightmares from it if I did.

“No,” I deny, honestly. I’m annoyed by the fact that in the last month while Tanner’s been healing, I’ve yet to do anything besides some heavy petting and make out sessions.

Oh, and let me not forget I’ve been getting these calls several times during the day. At first, I thought it was someone who had the wrong number but now I’m not so sure.

“Then what’s goin’ on,” Emerson demands.

Sighing I tell them about the calls and how they’ve become more frequent. Several times heavy breathing could be heard through the line.

“Do you think it could be Lori playing tricks on you?” Nora asks.

I shake my head in answer. There’s no way she’d do anything like this. Besides, Lori had texted me a couple times apologizing and wanted to put this mess behind us. Granted, I told her we could, I have yet to take her up on our normal lunches.

“No, Lori isn’t the type of person to do prank phone calls,” I say in defense of the woman who used to be my friend.

It’s a hard pill to swallow admitting the truth of the fact she used to be. If I’m honest, was she ever really my friend.

“Alexis, never not think someone can be capable of acting a certain way.” The haunting look in Nora’s gaze sends a pang through my chest.

“Nora’s right. You never know what anyone is capable of. Shit for all we know our waitress could be a serial killer who goes after a certain type of man,” Emerson states and I can’t help laughing because she’s probably right. Our waitress has that look about her.

“Leave that poor woman alone,” I say as I straighten in my seat. Glancing at my phone, I check the time. “I have a few more minutes before I have to be back at the shop. I uploaded Bethany’s first song this morning and it should be done by the time I get back. She’s gonna freak the hell out when she finds out.”

“Bethany has such a beautiful voice, why would she be upset?” Emerson frowns.

“Because she’s shy as hell about others hearing her sing. Chaz has been working with her on singing more,” I grin. “You guys should hear the arguments between the
