Darkmore Penitentiary 2 - Caroline Peckham Page 0,98

Warden Pike. She’ll take into consideration all of your Fae requests to correct and improve your nature.

It's time to go back to the way of the Fae and discover who you truly are.

I scowled, dropping the leaflet onto my chest and looking up at Rosa. "What's this bullshit?

"It's not bullshit, Roar, it's a fucking dream come true." She plucked it out of my grip again.

I stole a moment to take in her figure, her curves starting to flesh out again since her time in the hole. My dick liked that for filthy reasons as much as I liked it for platonic ones. I was definitely going to hell.

"What do you mean?" I asked as I got up and she leaned in close, whispering to me, her breath feathering across my neck.

"The survey is held up in the guards' quarters." She pointed out the small print on the leaflet and my brows arched as I read it.

"Well, holy shit," I laughed, beaming at her. I grabbed her waist, picking her up and spinning her around before I could stop myself. She squealed excitedly, wrapping her legs around my waist as she clung on. "You're a genius."

"Yup," she agreed with a grin as I planted her down. "So let's go. We'll suss it out when we're up there." She grabbed my hand and I smiled stupidly at the back of her head as she tugged me out of my cell and started down the stairs.

We'd been trying to figure out a way to get into the guards' quarters for days but kept coming up short. Now the warden herself had handed us the answer. Everything about Rosa's escape plan was coming together and with us starting the library job tomorrow, I was now seriously excited about getting out of here. I let myself dream for once and Rosa joined me in it too, both of us painting pretty pictures of the life that awaited us beyond here. The fantasy that excited me most was meeting my nephew and niece at last. I just hoped they liked me. I'd spent a bunch of time around kids growing up, seeing as my family was so close with Rosa's. The Oscuras popped out babies like freaking kittens. I wouldn't be surprised if Dante produced a litter of more kiddies I could spoil soon enough.

We jogged toward the void in front of the closed bridge on the bottom level and Rosa waved at one of the cameras to get the guards' attention. After a few moments, the bridge lowered and Hastings walked across it, glancing between the two of us curiously. Rosa dropped my hand and hurried toward him.

"Is everything alright, Twelve?" he asked, looking to me again with what I swear was a hint of jealousy. Poor kid was so hooked on Rosa, he'd probably get withdrawals when she got out of here. But if this guy's heart was the only casualty of us breaking out, it would be a small price to pay. Sorry dude.

"Yep, me and Roary were just hoping to do this inmate survey thing." She held the leaflet out to Hastings and his eyes widened.

"Really?" he asked, seeming dumbfounded.

"Yeah, we have a few requests," she purred, fluttering her lashes. "Is there a problem?"

"No problem," he said with a small laugh, leaning a little closer to her as he dropped his voice. "It's just that literally no one has taken up the offer of this survey."

"Well, now they have," Rosa said with a grin. "So can we go?"

"Er yeah, sure," Hastings said, seeming slightly baffled still, but he turned and jerked his head at us to follow him over the bridge. "So, what requests do you have for this place?" he asked curiously as Rosa fell in to step beside him and I trailed along behind, my heart thumping with adrenaline at the thought of using my thieving skills again. The petty theft I conducted in here was nothing compared to this. This shit had serious consequences and that was the sort of job I'd always loved in the past. The longer the jail time, the more I wanted to pull it off and prove myself.

I'd had a decent chunk of my confidence knocked after I'd been caught for the first time ever though. Rosa had been in trouble and I'd helped her instead of running from the FIB. I'd known what I was doing. Known what I was risking. But, cocky asshole that I was, I hadn't believed I'd really be
