with Yara. The other two women kept to themselves, not talking to her much.
Becky and her family joined their big rowdy crowd. When Kaiden came out, the group stood and cheered and chanted his name. Nobody had told him that everyone was coming to the game. He stopped and looked into the crowd, his eyes widening, before he joined his teammates.
Kaiden was a kid everyone seemed to love. The parents in the surrounding stadium started chanting his name too—all but one, Mr. Warner, who glared at Siena. She shifted in her seat and turned back to watch the game.
Mr. Warner’s son sat on the sidelines in street clothes. He wouldn’t play the last game of the year. The kid wasn’t going to graduate that year either. Siena had offered numerous times to help him find a tutor or explain the math to him. Each time, the kid blew her off, and the parents weren’t any better. She tried a few times to get hold of Mr. Warner, but he never returned her calls. His secretary gave her the same song and dance each time—he was always too busy for her calls. His mother always made an excuse not to come in and discuss his grades. Half the time, she didn’t even show up for the games. That night, Mr. Warner sat to the side alone, drinking out of a silver flask.
Next to Siena, Hudson tensed and whispered something to one of his teammates before turning to her. “Do you know who that is?” he asked with a nod toward Mr. Warner. “He hasn’t stopped glaring in our direction.”
Oh, shit, the last thing I need is Hudson to go all alpha male on my student’s dad.
“Yes, that’s Jacob’s father.” She motioned toward the field. “He’s not able to play tonight because he’s failing three of his classes, and one of them is mine. Mr. Warner is still under the impression that teachers pass kids so they can play football. Jacob’s really good at sports and could easily go to a top college for that. But his grades and test scores will make it difficult for him to get in, even though there are colleges out there that still care more about the sport than the kid's grades.”
She would never fudge a score so a kid could play, even though some might think she was ruining the kid's future. If she saw the student trying hard and failing, she would figure out a way to help, but when they didn’t even try, she didn’t either.
“Why isn’t he glaring at the other teachers around here, only you?” He paused. “I can go talk to him.”
Siena grabbed Hudson’s hand and squeezed it tight. She didn’t need him making a scene at Kaiden’s football game or her place of work. Rumors had already started about how she was dating a student’s dad. Only a few people knew the backstory and that he was Mia’s father.
“No.”
He watched her for a second before his lips turned up. “You get all turned on when I go alpha male. I think that’s what you and Angel call it.”
Casanova laughed behind her, followed by a thump. “Jesus, woman, you don’t need to hit so hard. And it’s actually called going asshole alpha.”
“You said a bad word,” Mia announced. “Uncle C, you owe me ten dollars for the swear jar.”
“I thought swear jars were, like, twenty-five cents,” Casanova countered but still handed over the ten dollars, which she plucked out of his hand to put in the jar later.
“It’s called infla… Mom, what’s the word?”
“Inflation.”
All the surrounding men laughed.
“As for him, he’s nothing to worry about,” Siena said nodding toward the parent.
“I’ll always worry about you and want to protect you,” Hudson said as he kissed her cheek. “Glaring at someone for something his son did leads me to believe it’s the dad more than the kid who’s the problem. I’m so glad my sister did an amazing job with Kaiden, and you did an amazing job with our daughter.”
“All this feeling talk is giving me hives,” Angel grumbled behind them. “But if that dude doesn’t stop glaring in our direction, I might have to go have a chat with him.”
Casanova leaned back in the bleacher. “And I would sit here and watch and not get all alpha involved with that man, because I’d know you had it under control, babe.”
Angel knocked Casanova’s arm, and he fell backward and spilled his drink. Angel chuckled. “Clearly, you have everything under control. And
